HOWARD STERN....

Stern was on Best Damn Sports Show last night...he was excellent as always. He showed that new portable unit to the audience.

Tomorrow should be pretty cool. I hope he causes a hugh scene in Manhatten and traffic shuts down. That would rock.

Jackie on today was awesome. That guy was a riot. Love Artie too.

My favorite moment....hmmm...that's tough. I enjoyed the day they beat the girl with a fish, for the first time. Every time he comes up with this stuff, I'm stunned. My favorite parts of the day was always the news.

And Howard has been a bright spot of my day for 10 years now.

Love you Howard...my Sirius is just waiting to listen to you.

Since there will probably be a transit strike in the city tomorrow, traffic will probably be shut down already - especially since a lot of cab drivers are planning to not "scab" and drive.

Howard Stern is very much an innovator in radio. But I think his time has passed him by. As far as I'm concerned, his show has been stale for five years to be honest and although I think that a couple million people will follow him to Sirius, most won't.

There are enough other people doing things similar to what he's done - and MOST people who listen to radio aren't so strongly attached to any personality to follow them to a paid service.

XM thought they could do it with Opie and Anthony and that turned out to be a bomb. If I was CBS/Infinity, I would have made Howard Stern sit out his show from the day he announced the switch until next month. It leads me to believe that his show will be back on regular radio - sooner than later.

I also loved hearing the old crew back together this morning.

My favorite moments, and I know I speak for my wife also, were the times during the "Magic Johnson Show".

Magic's show was god-awful and Howard spent at least an hour every day dissecting it and tearing into him. It was gold!

Then Magic invited him on the show and Howard had his "band" play the song "Wipe-out" with a couple professional farters.

Great stuff!

That Magic Hour review was probably the best thing he did during the 10 or so years I've listened. I used to look forward to that every morning.

The Gary "apology" tape was great. His professional life was at like a noin.

On the E show, the goo goo dolls song where all of the cast was dressed in thongs or sailor outfits and they danced might be my visual favorite. I always thought it was cool that Jon Stewart got into a sailor outfit and danced with the cast.

Any time Howard talked to his parents on air.

I, too, could go on and on.

MO, those who feel he is stale haven't listened in the past year. As well I think it's underestimated as to how many will follow him. Upwards of 70% of his audience is upper class professionals.

As for Infinity sitting him.. they are his biggest cash cow. Just for suspending him from those 6 markets last year they lost, by their account, nearly $200 million $'s. His ad supporters are extremely faithful. That speaks louder then his fan base, IMO.

Tomorrow will be a sad day for radio. I've been a huge fan of Stern for a long time. Funny, considering I used to hate him. "Private Parts" changed that. I love Fred and all of his sound effects. George Takei's "young, wet b****es", some porno chick's "oh, yeah!"

I'll miss the entire crew. From Artie to Beetlejuice to High Pitch "who's High Pitch?" to Jeff the Drunk to Gary and Wendy the Retard. And, of course, RIP Hank the Drunken Dwarf. It was nice to hear Jackie this morning, but Artie is much better, IMO.

Also, it would have been nice if Stuttering John came back just for a day.

Some of my favorite bits were: Its Just Wrong, Stump the Booey and of course, the Gossip Game.

I'd like to buy Sirius, but I can't justify buying it just for Howard Stern, who I only get a chance to listen to for about an hour a day.

Here's to you Howard. You'll definitely be missed. :cheers :cheers :cheers :crying :crying :crying

I don't know why Infinity lost 200 million dollars, those six markets were Clear Channel owned them. Lots of markets were looking to dump Stern years ago because they are such a tough sell locally and is an incredibly expensive show to get the rights to.

In Grand Rapids, for example, the rights to Stern cost 300K a year. The company that ran Stern got good ratings for AM Drive but could not sell the show as well as they wanted because there are lots of local advertisers that will not advertise on Stern because he's Stern. BUT, a lot of the folks that advertise on Stern will advertise on his replacement because they know that people will listen anyway.

In order to not violate Stern's contract the company (that I worked for) moved the show to an AM affiliate. The FM morning ratings tanked. Yet within six months, the rock station with a much crappier morning show and fewer listeners was making way more money for the bottom line than Stern was. Revenue was up, cost was down.

I have listened in the past year and I do think he's gotten stale. I would listen occasionally and I just didn't hear anything that would keep me coming back. It seemed like every time I listened he'd be crying about the FCC and how he's being persecuted. Sounds like Mancow minus the black helicopters following him home.

I was a fan at one point, but that was a pretty long while ago.

I won't miss him now.

Can somone send a link to the player that is compatible inside and outside the car??

No. There isn't one.

Rex, I meant to say Clear Channel. By their admission they lost that much.

Gonna have to call BS on that figure. The top billing stations in NY, LA and Chicago bill 70-90 million dollars a year. Clear Channel had stations in none of these markets carrying Stern.

Stern only brought in about 25 million in profits a year for Infinity. Clear Channel only had Stern in one top 20 market, San Diego. I can pretty much guarantee that none of those stations billed more than 20 mil a year, Stern representing maybe 1/3 of that total revenue. A new morning show would have probably maintained most of that revenue as well... so I'm willing to guess that the hit to Clear Channel over the two year period of Stern being on terrestrial radio and not Clear Channel was probably less than 10 million.

Howard's still funny, but I tend to agree with you. When he had that TV show that originated from the NY channel (the one that use to be syndicated and showed Mets games every now and then) he was funny as hell.

I still listen regularly, but haven't rushed out to get Sirius.

No one does what Howard does. They may try, but its not good. And comparing Opie and Anthony to Howard, shows me you are clueless.

Steff, Stern showed the portable unit last night.  It looks like an ipod.  It can store hours of Sirius programming, and its an MP3 player.  That's all I know.

And I'm telling you I have been on the phone with Sirius and every electronics source all morning looking to buy it. They are telling me that it's not portable. It's recordable...

Yes.. and my cd player is portable also.. but it doesn't receive radio transmissions.

Oh, it doesn't get the signal unless its plugged in or something? That is dumb. I'm not an mp3 person, so this would be of no interest to me, especially at this price.
