Steve9347
Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew if a station that is recievable in the Chicagoland area caries Cardinals games. It would be a real treat to listen to Rooney call the games against the White Sox on June 20 - June 22... I'm sure that will be an emotional series for him. I know the Cardinals flagship (KMOX?) is 50,000 watts and can blare pretty far sometimes and have gotten it in the western suburbs.
Brian
KTRS is the new station. They bought the rights after the Cardinals were on KMOX for 50 plus years.

Dick Allen
The new Cardinals station and the Score, the White Sox new station are owned by the same parent company.

So why the hell couldn't they pay John Rooney the same money to do the Sox games that they are paying him to do the Cards games?
southsideirish
QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) xm satellite radio... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> f*** XM. Sirius is better. You can always listen live on MLB.com and save a ton of money by not buying XM.

southsideirish
QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 04:42 AM) XM carries Major League Baseball. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So does MLB.com. For free. The only way that isn't the same for me is if I am in my car. I have my PC hooked up to my entertainment system. Is there another reason XM would be better than Sirius? Sirius has NFL, NHL, and NBA plus Howard Stern.
palehose23
QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) If they offered Rooney the same money in Chicago, he'd be there, imho. I respect your opinion but like others have said on this subject Rooney left the Sox because he was always wanted to be the Cards play by play guy (ala Wayne Larivee leaving the Bears for the Packers). The Score, White Sox, and Rooney were in negotiations and then John cut off talks abrutly. Edited December 18, 2005 by palehose23
TLAK
QUOTE(palehose23 @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 06:49 AM) I respect your opinion but like others have said on this subject Rooney left the Sox because he was always wanted to be the Cards play by play guy (ala Wayne Larivee leaving the Bears for the Packers). The Score, White Sox, and Rooney were in negotiations and then John cut off talks abrutly. The Cardinals job wasn't open when Rooney and the Score were negotiating. They fired Wayne Hagen (and will eat the last year of his contract) a month after Rooney decided to leave. The Score/Rooney negotiations ended in September and at the time the rumors had him going to LAA. If something was going on behind the scenes between Rooney and the Cards, they did a great job a keeping it a secret.

Actually John & The Score made one last effort the Thursday after the series ended. That didn't work out and the next day John called St Louis. bjm676
If you go to the Cardinals home page and scroll down to "More Sights and Sounds" you'll hear a nice interview with "Cards Broadcaster" John Rooney. He discusses the Sox, being the only local broadcaster in Chicago sports history to ever call a World Series Champion, and his future with the Cardinals.
