"Aside from a two-minute conversation he had with a Mr. [Marlins' GM Larry] Beinfest of Miami, Fla., on Dec. 6, there hasn't been much activity," said Tom Bunning, a Verizon Wireless account representative. "He does text quite a bit, but that’s usually just chit-chat with his golf buddies." Cubs manager Dusty Baker was surprised when he heard about Hendry's apparent lack of phone activity. "Man, I was wondering why we don't have a right fielder or a shortstop," said Baker. "But it still doesn't make sense. All I hear about the dude is that he's on his phone all the time. What gives?" According to an unnamed Cubs intern, Hendry likes to pretend he’s on the phone swinging deals. "The other day I walked in his office with the new Lost DVDs he ordered from Amazon, and he quickly flipped open his phone and yelled 'Patterson for Tejada!'" said the intern. "When he saw it was me, he put his phone back on his belt clip and asked me to get him lunch. The guy's a classic fake-dialer." Specializes in generalizing Sox fans as trailer trash, although they have recently been unable to avoid the ineptitude of their own beloved Blue Losers.
