ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays acquired veteran catcher Josh Paul from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for minor league infielder Travis Schlichting, it was announced today by Rays Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman.

Paul, 30, is a career .251 hitter with eight home runs and 56 RBI in 228 major league games over seven seasons with the White Sox (second round pick in 1996), Cubs and Angels. He appeared in 34 games last season for Los Angeles, as well as two games in the postseason.

Schlichting, 21, was the Rays' fourth round selection in 2003. He spent last season with Single-A Southwest Michigan batting .252 in 111 games with three home runs, 39 RBI and 13 stolen bases.

About a month ago some idiot wrote into the Angels site saying "The Angels are a good team that was one blown call away from taking the White Sox down."

Apparently he has a short memory for the four consecutive complete games by Sox pitching that totally shut his team down.

this has to be the stupidest trade, a team trying to rebuid is now getting older

Maybe they just wanted a veteran catcher for their very young pitchers and hes cheap...may not be all that bad!!!...Plus the new TB coach was LAAs Bench coach so he knows Paul very very well
