He'll write an article soon enough saying how Papelboner is the greatest young pitcher in the game.

The Red Sox were rumored to be interested in trading for Jeremy Reed if they lost out on Damon. Gammons will now bring up how Reed was the greatest White Sox prospect ever.

Much like in Game 3 of the division series where Berman practically recreated XXX Porn in the both over him and when Jenks threw harder than him barely mentioned anything.

oh just wait until tomorrow, you will get an assfull of this. I doubt I can listen to Dan Patrick tomorrow for fear I might break my radio.

Only good thing about Gammons reaction is he'll likely point out that the NYY pitching staff still has some questions, which is something that will be ignored by everyone else.

I can't believe the Yankees and their constant overspending. It's like they want to put the other teams out of business financially r something. Keep throwing money on it is George Steinbrenner's motto

You have to like these types of Gms who will do anything to win, seems like this past year KW was also willing to throw money to get the winning team, eventually it all works out, yankees are by far the team to beat in their division, steinbrenner is determined to get the yanks back in the series, overall even though damon has a bad arm they did need the outfielder and they have almost all of their holes filled except they could use a pitcher

No further details available at this point, just heard it from across the newsroom (doing some work for the paper here in Louisville.)

An article written by the Associated Press on the internet states that the deal is still preliminary and he still needs to pass his physical. The deal is worth $52 million.

I wonder if Steinbrenner will make him Damon cut his hair??

Buster Olneys take

My LOL quote:

Without any indication that Boston was going to budge to a fifth-year, Damon and Boras bit on the Yankees' offer, immediately shifting the balance of power in the American League East.

How does the balance of power shift? Didnt the Yankees win the east last year?

Now it's Boston that will be left to sift through imperfect solutions -- perhaps a deal for Seattle center fielder Jeremy Reed, a talented but unproven player, or the acquisition of Patterson. Now it is the Red Sox who don't have a center fielder.

Let me pause to consider feeling bad for the Red Sox for getting into their current predicament. Consideration denied.

How funny is it that Boston and up until yesterday, New York have considered Corey Patterson as their starting CF? Can you imagine CP delivering one of his patented "Its just a game" statements to the NY or Boston media? He would be ripped in the tabloids until he left.

Shaugnessy is PISSED, LOL

While New England slept last night, Damon got into bed with the enemy.

So now your Boston Red Sox have no center fielder, no shortstop, and no first baseman to go along with no Theo Epstein and no clue. It's fair to say this is becoming a winter of discontent in Red Sox Nation.

The Josh Beckett trade bought some goodwill and glad tidings, but losing Damon to the Yankees is a devastating blow to the foundation of the Nation.

Seems like Damon will receive a no-trade clause:

The Yankees have been insistent all along that they would not go beyond four years for Damon, 32, and they may have surprised themselves by accomplishing their mission without wrecking their plan. The Yankees' concession was to pay Damon $13 million annually, which is high for a leadoff hitter and actually slightly above his original asking price of $12 million. Damon is also to receive a no-trade clause.

I don't see how they can effectvely replace these positions. I wonder how bad Manny will want out now.

Mussina

Wright/Pavano?

Chacon

Wang?

Enjoy being ousted in the first round yet again, Yanks.

Bingo. They can improve their lineup all they want but until they upgrade their rotation they ain't getting past the first round.

a buddy of mines take who took the words out of my mouth:

For about half the life of Damon's contract, most Red Sox fans considered his $8.5M year contract to be an albatross. The amount of money the Yankees are going to pay is reckless.

I just want to go on record as saying this is great news for the Red Sox in the long run.

I think Damon will continue to be an above average centerfielder in the next year or two. Three years freom now, however, I expect the Yankees to be dealing with Bernie Williams II.

Damon's range has been in decline over the past three years, he can't throw, and several offensive indicators suggest he won't be much better than average hitter as he enters his mid 30's, either. His offensive skill set will not be helped by playing half his games in the context of Yankee Stadium, either.

This is also good news for the Sox because they get two of the Yankees' draft picks next year. New York's farm system is barren and it doesn't look like it will be getting better any time soon.

Now it's time for the Red Sox to come up with a plan for centerfield. Obviously, this non-move is only as good as their Plan B.

If they can get Reed for Arroyo or get Crisp from the Indians without giving up too much, this will be a good thing. If they spend the $10M they were offering Damon wisely, this could be an excellent series of events. We'll have to wait and see how it turns out.
