Holiday Wishes Thread

Dear Friends,

I wanted to send out some sort of holiday greeting to you, but it is so difficult in today's world to know exactly what to say without offending someone. So I met with my attorney yesterday, and on his advice I wish to say the following:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, nonaddictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2006, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country or is the only "America" in the western hemisphere) and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, or sexual preference of the wishee.

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms: This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

Disclaimer: no trees were harmed in the sending of this message however, a significant number of electrons were slightly inconvenienced.

Merry Christmas everyone. This is the time of year to be happy, joyful, pleasant, and at times indigent, for whatever reason. But hopefully all you soxtalker’s have a good one.

Indigent? I sure hope not!

Anyone have the text of that resolution?

(And is this thread doomed to be moved to the Filibuster?)

The Top 5 Homeland Security Christmas Cards

5> Two lists we seek this Christmas Day,

one Naughty and one Nice.

So hand them over now, Fat Boy

-- we won't ask you twice.

4> May your holiday season be filled with all the joys and

pleasures you find dear. Which, according to your

web-surfing history, includes Honduran cigars, Coca Cola

collectibles, naked Asian girls and vibrating butt-plugs.

3> In the meadow, we will build a snowman.

We'll pretend his skin and beard are brown.

We'll say, "You al Qaeda?" He'll say, "No, man!"

But just in case, we'll haul his ass downtown.

2> We see you when you're sleeping.

We know when you're awake.

We like you in that nightie but

we know those boobs are fake!

and Topfive.com's Number 1 Homeland Security Christmas Card...

1> A child was born on Christmas Day.

Despite the "savior" hype,

we've searched the manger twice

'cause he's a Middle-Eastern type.

I couldn't have said this any better. From a message list I belong to

Personally, I've always felt that the appropriate and courteous thing to do

is to offer someone not the greeting for my faith, but the one for theirs.

After all, when wishing well to others, it isn't about me; it's about them.

And taking the time to know them just a little has always seemed better than

offering a generic line in passing.

To our Jewish colleagues, a very blessed and Happy Hanukkah.  May each

candle lighted this year rededicate us to the cause of religious freedom.

To our Christian friends, a very blessed and Merry Christmas.  May the

humble birth of of the Savior rededicate us to the care of the Father's

other poor and homeless children we see every day.

To our African-American families, a joyous Kwanzaa to you! May the Nguzo

Saba rededicate us to strengthening our community of Scouting, and reaching

out to those children most in need - Umoja!  They are Us!

To our Friends who recall the death of Zarathushtra this week, may the Good

Thoughts we share and the Good Words we speak lead ever more fully to Good

Deeds in our world.

And may the Great Scoutmaster of all great scouts be with each of us and our

loved ones this season.

Yours in Scouting,

Bob Geier
