STATEMENT FROM INDIANAPOLIS COLTS:

The Indianapolis Colts can confirm the death of James Dungy, the eldest son of Tony Dungy. There are no details at this time.

"Our Colts family is united in prayer and support for the Dungy family at this time," said Colts Owner and C.E.O. Jim Irsay. "It is an unspeakable tragedy, and we will do whatever we can to assist Tony, Lauren and their children."

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone in the Colts organization are with Tony and his family. Those joining the organization in these sentiments are asked to observe the family’s wish for privacy at this time,” said Colts President Bill Polian.

I feel horrible for Tony. Jim Caldwell will lead the team in Dungy's absence. I hope Dungy takes the weekend off.

Sorry didn't see the post on page 2..

With that said, if that is his website.. I pissed off at Tony..

How much money does Tony need? If his son has issues, wouldn't he quit coaching to help him out.. Look its not like if Tony leaves for a year or so to fix the issues that he won't get another job. Family is the most important thing..

That is completely true.  It's really amazing too, something as simple as 1 or 2 new friends that care about you can turn you from escaping into the bad things, and instead get you back on track, which makes these sort of things even sadder.

Seriously, or even a teacher, or a student adviser can help. I did graduate work in psychology when I was at school, and I worked in our clinic. Many of the professors down there had students constantly in their office just talking and hanging out with them. I looked at it as that many more kids that would have a better direction in their lives.

The interesting (and VERY sad) thing about this is.....if that really is the kid's myspace (probably is) and if he did indeed commit suicide as it's being reported, it brings up a whole mess of touchy issues into the national spotlight.  Teen depression, teen suicide, the fact that myspace and other blogs are the best way to find out how a young person really feels.  Be interesting to see how this story is reported as time goes on.

Unfortunately, the effects of rap music upon black youth will also be examined. Littered throughout his profile were homages to famous rap artists. His title, "f*** The Police--" an infamous lyric from N.W.A, certaintly lends one self to question whether he attempted to emulate the lifestyles of his idols.

I just heard Boers and Bernstein on the Score say it so I checked it out.  You don't think that it's a coincidence that MySpace took the page down just now?  It's most likely James Dungy's page.

No coincidence, it was probably getting so many hits.

Sad incident--18 year olds usually don't drop dead. Likely, he died from one of the following: murder, suicide, drug/alcohol overdose.

Yeah you're right but a while back I had a high school classmate die in their sleep. The heart just gave out.

Although his myspace is no longer up, I was looking at his friends pages and he did hint at a suicide. I no longer have access to the exact phrase, but he left a comment on his friends page that said "I will no longer be talking to anyone". It was along those lines, and posted on December 21st, yesterday.

I know most would of just passed in off as a meaningless, bizzarre comment, but I guess something could of been done.

I saw that as well. He posted something like, "I can't talk to anyone anymore."

Yea I was with my grandmother when I heard this. Dungy is very faithful. He'll get his family pass this. Prayers go out to the Dungy family. I will never understand anyone who does suicide though. Can your life be that messed up to take your OWN life? I know I shouldn't get into that or why he did it so I'll just keep quiet. I just wanted to throw that out there.

Anybody that is messed up enough to take their own life honestly has issues that we will never understand. Hence I am one of the few out there who refuses to pile on somebody who commits suicide, because we will never understand just how tormented and confused the person was.

People lose their faith through tragedies such as these. I imagine it's difficult to maintain composure within your life by simply suggesting "the Lord works in mysterious ways," or "he does things for the better." For all his life he's probably heard the fate of those who commit suicide, and now his son has done just that. How do you accept that belief and simultaneously convince yourself he's in a better place? I'm not trying to turn this discussion into a religious thread, but events such as these are difficult tests for those of true religious conviction. We can only assume the Dungy family have the right people around them.

Or maybe you ever thought that person was just a coward and took the easy way out......
