David Wells - S - Red Sox

The Red Sox continue to discuss David Wells with the Dodgers and are likely trying to land prospects who could then be flipped to Tampa Bay for Julio Lugo.

Andy LaRoche, Jonathan Broxton and Edwin Jackson are three of the names that would surely intrigue the Rays. Like Chad Billingsley, LaRoche should be off-limits in a Wells deal. Broxton and Jackson might not be. The Red Sox are also believed to still be discussing Wells with the Padres, but San Diego GM Kevin Towers wants Woody Williams to go the other way in a deal, something that doesn't interest the Red Sox at all. If he goes to San Diego, that could position the Sox to be at a greater advantage with any Garland discussions, in which the Dodgers would certainly be interested.

It seems to me that David Wells has caused trouble every place he went.  I have heard other rumors of him going to the Red Sox.  Yankees would be better off without him. :santa

I know its christmas and you may have had too much egg nog. Wells was on the Redsox, not the yankees. I never saw a rumor of him going to or the yankees thinking about signing wells. He was not on the Yankees last year.

Gee your probably right!! Not thinking. Thanks for the wake up call!! I can see why Boston would want to trade him, they would probably trade him to the N.L.

Thanks for correcting my error very much appreciated. :bang

The real question though is why would anyone want to give up the prospects mentioned for a broken down pitcher? Wells might have one or two years left max and not be anywhere near the 15 game wins you might want or need out of him.

Havent people been saying the same thing about Wells for the past 7 years? Despite his weight and bacl problems, the only team that Wells screwed over for health reasons has been our beloved. He rehabbed after that season and really has been pretty consistent since.

I'm pretty sure Wells has told people close to him that this is going to be his final season and he wants to finish on the West Coast. I continu to believe its just a matter of time until he ends up in San Diego.

The Dodgers, Giants and Angels would be other potential sleepers (and I doubt the Angels would go after him, although he'd be a nice pickup).
