rangercal
The only passing I want to see Orton do from now on is pssing the gatorade to the rest of the guys on the sideline.
Chisoxfn
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 25, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) BWAHAHAHAHA, after all of this time you are still drunk on the Orton Love. Let's break this down. One of the best rookie seasons of all time? A 59.9 QB rating constitutes one of the best rookie seasons of all time now does it? Grossman could throw 5 INT's today? Umm yeah ok, they're playing the Green Bay Packers, not the Chicago Bears on defense. But still Orton would probably throw for less than 100 yards (which he did twice in the last 4 weeks) and complete 50% or less of his passes (which he did 4 times in the last 4 games). Alex Smith plays on the San Francisco 49ers. Their offensive line is TERRIBLE and hardly gives him a chance to make a play. Could you imagine Orton dancing around in the pocket for them? And let's look back on some QB's who ALL had better rookie season then Orton; Tom Brady - 86.5 QB rating, 2843 yards. David Carr - 62.8 QB rating, 2592 yards. Drew Bledsoe - 65.0 QB rating, 2494 yards. Kerry Collins - 62.0 QB rating, 2717 yards. Byron Leftwich - 73.0 QB rating, 2819 yards. Peyton Manning - 71.2 QB rating, 3739 yards. Jake Plummer - 73.1 QB rating, 2203 yards. Ben Roethlisberger - 98.1 QB rating, 2621 yards. But because Orton won 9 games for the Bears he's great right? Technically speaking, when looking at a lot of the all time greats rookie seasons, you'll see that Orton's qb rating and numbers stand out. Plus, Brady wasn't a rookie, it was his 2nd year when he put up those numbers.
jackie hayes
There's no question that Rex is better, but I still think it's right to give some credit to Orton. He was not asked to make plays, just to not turn the ball over, and for the most part (excepting the 5 int game) he did just that. When your first priority is, 'Don't throw a pick', it makes sense to err up and throw it high towards the sidelines -- which he did over and over and over... Compare his rookie year to Kyle Boller's, they're extremely similar -- both were told to let the run game and the defense win it, don't try to be a hero. And each basically followed instructions -- didn't take chances and didn't complete many passes. Boller's been better (rating and completion percentage) each succeeding year, and I don't see any reason Orton can't do the same. Hopefully Rex is the starting qb for many years, but I like the thought of Orton in the backup role.
watchtower41
great thread... Orton gets no credit becuase of the media and fans that think we have Joe MOntana coming off the bench. Look at this team last year with Krenzel and Quinn, same defense, but did they win any games?? The Bears stand today as division winers in largepart to the way Orton handled the offense and did not hand over games to the opposing team. Sexy Rexy on the other hand, will choke in out firsty playoff game. In 6 quarters he already has 3 pics and was a stellar 11-23 against one of the worst defense's in the league. Hope they gets his wing in Canton done soon. to Grossman, the most overrated Chicagoan since Kerry Wood

The Bears in 2005 have given up 11.2 points a game, 274.2 Yds/G and have 24 INT's and have forced 18 fumbles. In 2004, the Bears gave up 20.7 points a game, 336.9 Yds/G and only had 17 INT's and onlt forced 14 fumbles. Their defense is better in EVERY category this season. That's why it's become elite, and why that argument you've said is flawed. The way Orton handled the offense? Ok then. Rex throws a better deep ball and more receivers such as Justin Gage and Bernard Berrian have become involved in the offense, which can only open things up for the running game. But guys, let's try to keep things civil in here, while we've got a fairly good discussion going. Edited December 28, 2005 by DBAH0

RockRaines
The best part about when they put Rex in was that in his first throw he eclipsed Orton's ENTIRE first half total. When mentioning rookie QB's that have had a better season than Orton, how many of them had the league's #1 defense and a top running game to help them out? Orton's decision making and arm are horses*** compared to Rex. Even I have seen that after backing up Orton. Grossman is a much better option. Josh, be a man, admit that you were wrong, s*** even Anthrax did it.
southsideirish71
If you want to ask if there is a difference, ask Thomas Jones who isnt looking at 9 in the box anymore because Grossman can actually throw a nice deep ball with touch.
