RockRaines
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Good point. Isn't demanding a trade two years after agreeing to a long, multi-year contract sort of being a clubhouse cancer? He accepted a contract from the Orioles and is now demanding a trade because he doesn't want to play for them anymore. Keep in mind, Tejada really has no right to demand a trade. He wants a trade because he is disappointed with the Orioles' front office moves and he is sick of playing for a losing team. He is basically telling his teammates that he doesn't think they are good enough to win anything. Right, he thinks that the management lied to him, and have not made the moves to make the team a contender. Have they, do you think they have made the effort to make the team win?? They havent been a team in contention since he had been there, and his presense stopped a long legacy of losing seasons. The management lied to him when he signed, and im sure he is hurt by that. Here he is, playing his heart out, not missing a game, producing, and the front office is doing nothing to help?? Yeah im sure he is upset. The fact is, he is well known, by players, management and teammates to be a great presense, and a leader. It is a FACT. Even the lame ESPN scouting page has his strength as a tremndous leader and competitor. Calling him a cancer is a bit much IMO.

Just look at the Orioles' record in previous years before Tejada signed with them before the 2004 season... 2003: 71-91 (.438) 2002: 67-95 (.414) 2001: 63-98 (.391) 2000: 74-88 (.457) 1999: 78-84 (.481) 1998: 79-83 (.488) The Orioles were perennial losers before Tejada signed with them. He signed with them because he wanted a lot of money, not because he wanted to win. Since he already got his fat contract, he thinks he can just demand a trade because he wants to win now. That's being a cancer to me. Edited December 30, 2005 by SSH2005

Yes they were, but he said that they told him they were going to make moves to make the team a contender. based on his storied desire to compete, I believe that he thought they were going to improve the team. Regardless I still think he is a great leader, on two different teams. i still dont want him here however. Kyyle23
Im waiting for Tejada to stop reiterating his trade demand, to tell you the truth. We all know. He doesnt have to keep telling ESPN he wants to be traded and continue throwing his team under the bus for lack of action.
Damen
Why would you not want Tejada on the Sox, in exchange for an inferior SS and a replaceable pitcher?

Adam G
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) Regardless I still think he is a great leader, on two different teams. You know, we might both be right. Historically, with Oakland and his first season in Baltimore, maybe he was the best clubhouse guy around. Perhaps it took a season like last year and then management's inaction this offseason for Tejada to show his true colors.

Contreras was the best pitcher in baseball in the second half and in the playoffs last year. Replacing that isnt that easy.

Frankensteiner
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) He is basically telling his teammates that he doesn't think they are good enough to win anything. Which is really no different than Mike Brown saying "we suck," but if you actually win the division, then you're seen as a great motivator instead of a team cancer. Well, I have already said why in a lengthy post. But I think Uribe and Contreras have higher value than Tejada IMO. If we had unlimited budget, then yes he is a good fit. But I really like Uribe's talent, his youth, and his contract. Because he have to resign some EXPENSIVE pitchers in a couple of year, and uribe's contract will allow that, Tejadas wont.
