JohnStamos
Buster Olney mentioned that the Orioles nearly had a deal with the White Sox for Jon Garland until the White Sox asked for Eric Bedard. I know it's a mute point right now, but does anyone know what this deal was? I don't think it was anything involving Tejada but I could be wrong. Sorry if I'm repeating something or if this is old news, but any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
SSH2005
http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=olney_buster It's been a frustrating winter for the Orioles. They nearly had a deal completed for Jon Garland, before the White Sox asked for Bedard at the last second. Baltimore felt like it was about to add Kris Benson, before the Mets pulled the plug on the trade talks. There is always the possibility that the framework for a Tejada-Prior deal could get worked out, only to have the Orioles back away out of concern for Prior's elbow history. 3E8
There was speculation the deal was something like Garland for Bedard, Adam Loewen, and a fringe prospect.
Milkman delivers
Was this being talked about before or after Garland signed the extension?

Chisoxfn
Garland is no longer on the market.
Guest JimH
Oh my God, do you mean the White Sox were offering Garland up in trade up until he signed an extension? Shocking. Paging VAFan, who can't seem to figure out the business aspect of baseball.

Do you think they will offer Contraras in a trade before the season?

VAFan thinks it makes sense to keep him no matter what, therefore they will keep him and a thead will be bumped up accordingly. Don't take this too seriously folks, just having some New Years Day fun.

They have Brian Andersen as an all star already. They know stuff. Not like me at all

It's just that Rowand was hardly impressive offensively last season. He had a pretty mediocre .736 OPS. As long as Anderson plays solid defense in center field, we should be alright. Even though the guy has barely played.
Guest JimH
Right, Rowand helped us win but he had holes. Hmmm ... Anderson in his minor league career appears to have some of the same holes. Guillen likes speedsters like Podsednik, it does not matter that all the posters on this site think we do not need two players of the same ilk, the point is Guillen wants more speed. No surprise to me if these rumors carry some weight.

Taveras is a singles hitter and has more speed. Anderson has more power. I don't need stats to realize that. Guest JimH
Personally I think the White Sox are impressed with what Tavares can do, along with 29 other teams. Just my opinion.

The White Sox want players who can steal bases, hit for average? We need to site down and discuss this, I have not been privy to Guillen's philosophy.
