THE Ohio State Penitentiary

Thats unneccessary. Ohio State may have had some recent problems but not everybody who goes to OSU is a criminal.

What a waste. He had all the potential in the world and blew it. But I guess he gets what he deserves.

That makes a great deal of sense.  Yes, lets group all individuals together because of the actions of one pathetic excuse for a human being.

I didn't think he was grouping all tOSU grads together. I thought he meant that, if convicted, he could go to the Ohio State Penitentiary...sort of a play on words. I could be wrong, but that's what I got out of it.

Didn't think I had to articulate that. :rolly

Ex-OSU star turns himself in to police

Clarett was wanted on armed-robbery charges

Minutes after a Fiesta Bowl victory celebration erupted on the campus of Ohio State University last night, a former Buckeye player slipped into the Franklin County jail with his attorney to answer a felony arrest warrant on charges of aggravated robbery.

Maurice Clarett apparently waited for the Ohio State game to end before arriving at the Franklin County jail about 9 p.m. with an attorney.

Clarett is expected to enter a not-guilty plea in Municipal Court today, said his attorney, Percy Squire.

The armed-robbery charges against Clarett, 22, have thrown the family of the former OSU football star for a loop.

"It’s devastating for" Clarett’s mother, said Vince Marrow, the former running back’s cousin and a confidant during Clarett’s days at OSU.

"We all hope it’s not true, and we want to clear his name if it isn’t true," Marrow said yesterday. Marrow was in Tempe, Ariz., for the Fiesta Bowl game between Ohio State and Notre Dame, which ended at 8:44 p.m. EST.

Clarett was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery after Lucas Nyarko and his friend, Tywona Douglas, reported that they were accosted by a gunman early Sunday in an alley behind a nightclub on S. High Street.

The gunman, whom police quickly identified as Clarett, escaped after stealing a cell phone from Nyarko, 28, of Columbus.

Marrow said he heard Clarett would surrender to authorities yesterday.

Clarett’s agent, Josh Luchs, of Los Angeles, said he hadn’t talked with Clarett, but he also had heard Clarett would turn himself in.

"We hope this is all a misunderstanding," Luchs said. "Allegations are just that, allegations. We will wait and see."

Police accuse Clarett of stopping Nyarko and Douglas, of Reynoldsburg, outside the Opium Lounge, 346 S. High St. A man showed them a gun he was carrying in his waistband and demanded that they empty their pockets, Nyarko told The Dispatch.

The robbery was interrupted when Tashona Corvi, the club’s owner, walked out the back door and seemed to recognize Clarett, Nyarko said. Corvi, who apparently did not realize a robbery was occurring, yelled, "Maurice!"

The robber picked her up and whispered "shush" to her, Nyarko said. The gunman then escaped in a white sport-utility vehicle with two people inside. One of the other men appeared to act as a lookout for the gunman, Nyarko said.

Clarett has been beset with difficulties in recent years. He led the Buckeyes to a national championship in the Fiesta Bowl in January 2003 but was suspended the following season.

OSU officials accused him of violating NCAA rules by accepting presents from a family friend. Later, Clarett was convicted of filing a false police report that claimed $10,000 worth of property was stolen from a car he had parked on campus.

Clarett quit OSU and filed a lawsuit against the National Football League over age restrictions in an attempt to enter the professional draft in 2004. He lost the case in federal appeals court.

He was drafted in the third round by the Denver Broncos in 2005 but was released in August.

Asked about reports that Clarett was ready to sign a contract to play for an NFL-affiliated European team, Luchs said, "I don’t want to talk about that. All that’s secondary now."

I heard he had a really good 40 time when he ran away from the scene of the crime. The witnesses said he had some really good moves too.

Just like some of the other thugs in pro sports today (Jamal Lewis), I am sure he will get another chance and sign on with some desperate team.

Dude, TO will get another chance. Why? Because he has, um, what' the word...talent?

The guy was drafted by Denver, way higher than he should have been. Name a better place for a running back than Denver. Denver couldn't figure out a way to turn him into anything. No one else will either.

Those witnesses must have been his agents then, Clarett hasnt had good moves or a good 40 time since 2003.

Actually I think it was because of his attitude and how he refused to sit on the bench.

The guys is just lost. If he stays at Ohio St for 2 more years and enters the draft as a Junior he makes millions. Instead he tries to get around the system with some bad advice, loses out on the NFL and college. Then sits around watching his buddy Lebron James make bazillions right out of high school, takes too much time off, and is horribly out of football shape when he goes to Denver.

If someone knocked some sense into this thug, he trained like mad for 6 months, someone would pick him up as insurance at least on the practice squad. I have seen crazier things happen.

Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser were discussing this on PTI the other daym and Tony mentioned that it is widely known that Clarett was very jealous of LeBron being able to jump straight to the NBA and make all of those millions of dollars in contracts and endorsements, while he had to wait it out playing football at Ohio St. Maurice Clarett always had a high sense of self entitlement and couldnt understand why he couldnt do the same thing, because for his entire life nobody told Maurice "No".

I think the window of opportunity finally slammed shut on this character. Clarett is going to end up in Sports Trivial Pursuit as the answer to this question:

"Which College Football Player screwed up his life almost as bad as Lawrence Phillips?"
