southsideirish71
Dayn Perrys wet dream More straws being grasped. My favorite line is, Five years running the Yankees have been the preseason favorite to win the World Series. This time, they'll come through. Well we should start seeing the preseason predictions coming in. I figure we will be picked anywhere from being champs to fighting it out for 4th place with the royals based on whatever mediot decides to put pen to paper. Lets see what happens on the field. Jordan4life_2007
How anybody could pick the Yanks to win it all with that pitching staff is beyond me. Somebody is taking stupid pills if you ask me.
soxman352000
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 06:15 AM) I think the Yankees pitching staff is going to come up short again like last year. Couldn't have said it better myself. The Yanks do not have a strong SP, but they have improved in the pen. They have alot of unprovens like Small and Wong. if those two come through then mabey the Yanks could be a serious threat
SSH2005
Their bullpen should be better but their rotation is still weak. Randy Johnson will be one year older and worse. Mussina is also aging and not getting any better. Carl Pavano had his one good season in 2004 and got his big contract. Jaret Wright sucks away from Leo Mazzone. Shawn Chacon and Chien-Ming Wang are probably their best pitchers after RJ and Mussina and and that's not very impressive.
DBAHO
People, people it's freakin Dayn Perry. I'm suprised he didn't pick the Royals and his reasoning would have been because of the FA's they signed.
Baines3
Yankees aren't going to win it all, they don't have the pitching. I have heard that same old story of the Yankee for years. The White Sox are too much for them.

SSH2005
Their pen is still pretty shaky outside of Rivera. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Their pen really isn't that bad now... Aaron Small Tanyon Sturtze Mike Myers Ron Villone Kyle Farnsworth Octavio Dotel (when healthy) Mariano Rivera The last spot in the rotation should be up for grabs though, unless they trade a starter... Randy Johnson Mike Mussina Carl Pavano Shawn Chacon Chien-Ming Wang Jaret Wright
sayitaintso
Everytime he picks the yankees he will eventually have to be right, so i think that is what he is going for.
winninguglyin83
Randy Johnson is closer to 50, not 30. His decline will continue. Mussina has arm problems every year and has yet to justify his $17 million contract. Aaron Small is bloody unlikely to go 10-0 again. Pavano might bounce back. Wright might bounce back. Odds are, though, that both of them will not bounce back. Chacon is a fourth or fifth starter. The Korean kid is OK, but he'd be no better than the fifth man on the Sox staff. And I'm not convinced Farnsworth will be a significant upgrade on Gordon. Plus, one of these years Marino Rivera HAS to hit the wall. Dude has thrown major, major innings for eight or nine years. I'm more worried about the Tribe and the Angels and maybe even the Twinkies.

Randy Johnson Mike Mussina Carl Pavano Shawn Chacon Chien-Ming Wang Jaret Wright A headcase like Farnworth pitching in NY is a recipe for disaster. Dotel is gonna be out for atleast the first two months. And nobody knows how effective he'll be when he gets back. Villone doesn't impress me all that much. Sturtze had an era close to 5 last year. I'm not that impressed with their pen. They're gonna miss Tom Gordon.
Kyyle23
I dont know, I thought their pen was much better last year with Tom Gordon in the mix. On paper it looks like their pen improved, but we all know what intense pressure does to Farnsworth, who knows if Dotel will ever be what he was before his injury, and Ron Villone is living off of his good 1st half with Seattle. I wont say this pen is good until I see it perform.
RME JICO
This is the same boob that picked the Sawks to win the East and the Indians to win the Central just last month. So as long as he keeps changing his predictions, he will eventually be right. I always love how he views the Sox: Overpaid for Konerko and should've dealt Scott Podsednik instead of Rowand. He hates Pods, and thinks the Sox overpay on every contract.

NorthSideSox72
This guy, like a lot of folks in the media and some on this board, has his pet stats. In his case, he tends to over-value offense versus undervaluing pitching. And aspects like defense and speed are just not even part of the equation in his world. Therefore, Pods sucks, and the Yanks rock. :rolly
RME JICO
Guys like him are always contradictory. They will use stats to back up one opinion, then completely disregard the same stats in another. Most of their articles are better for amusement purposes if nothing else. I am sure his new book will be a hot seller in the comedy genre.
