OJ Mayo's "twin" Bill Walker was ruled ineligable this coming year. He apparently played a freshmen season of high school ball before returning to 8th grade and has already used his 4 years of high school eligability up. Interesting to see where he ends up.

I have to seriously question why a player would receive a 4 star, but not get any offers from the quality programs in the Big 10.

Rivals has him as a 3 star, but in the end stars mean nothing. If you look back at Wisconsin, Beckum was godly stars wise but has yet to even see the field.

I am feeling more confident every day about Derek going to U of I. With he and Gordon playing so well together, plus being good friends, plus Derek wants to play in a guard-oriented motion offense, plus its close to home, ILL is looking pretty promising.

Hummel and Martin and the SYF Players came in second.

BTW, Hummel has a news conference tomorrow afternoon and is expected to decide between IU and Purdue. My "sources" tell me it's probably going to be Purdue with Moore, but before Sampson was ruled inelligible, he came and visited Hummel and Martin at my lunch table.

Purdue is putting together quite a recruiting class for next year(this coming from an IU fan). They already got Johnson(a raw center with good upside), they just got Moore(the one guy from Indiana that I really wanted besides Gordon), and I am also hearing wispers that they will also get Hummel(not as high on him as others) as well. I hate to admit it, but I did think Painter was a good hire for Purdue and that he would start getting good recruits in a couple of years. It is hard to fault Sampson at this point though. He was already behind the eight ball with most of the top recruits from Indiana because he was only recently hired, but you have to wonder where IU is going after losing three top instate recruits to your arch-rival.

In other recruiting news, not a big surprise but Benn(WR) announced that ND is a heavy favorite in a recent article(I know that Illinois fans really wanted this guy). According to rivals, Benn has "low" interest in Illinois at this point. It appears that Weis will add yet another impressive offensive recruit, now if he can only land a few top defensive recruits(especially DT).

Hummel's chosen Purdue.

Nice to see Painter earning his money with the recruiting.

Yeah Painter is doing a great job. Hummel told me how much he liked him and we all have known since early May that he was going to Purdue. It was kind of a let down going to a state school like Purdue when he was getting looked at by Duke, U-Conn, UNC, ect. Hopefully the program can get back on track and do well.

gordon is going to team with derrick rose again this weekend on mean street express for the reebok big-time tournament in vegas.

mse is in a seriously nasty four-team pool. the other teams in their four-team pool feature players like o.j. mayo, kevin love, alex legion, darquavis tucker, and a few other kids who are going to land at top schools. should be some good basketball.

Heck of a 2007 class he's got, he's really taking advantage of the recruiting restrictions placed on Sampson's head.

Wow...

FSU does not have the greatest track record. It goes hand in hand with ideas like Kansas will lose in the first round of a tourney.

Its a sarcastic remark,no offense meant.

"Interesting" comment from Torrey about the commitment.

“Florida State is a big-leader because I really like Coach Odell (Haggins), He said. " "Also, with my grades Florida State will work with you a lot more than Florida."

Yeah, I can't argue with that one though. The kid is probably an idiot, but Meyer will find someway to butter him up and bend the rules so he'll go to UF.

Apparently Zook got another great player. Melvin Alaeze is that player.

Also, apparently, his name is now in the U of I directory.

that is some seriously crazy spiff if it's true. alaeze was a five-star player and the sixth-ranked defensive tackle in the nation in 2005. getting a stud like this at the team's biggest position of need is impressive.

way to go zook.

That's what I said. I looked up some info on him. He ran a 40 in 4.5 seconds.
