Not Mac.

And supposedly tucker will also visit Depaul and miami with illinois and indiana being his top 2.

And by the way, I find the not wanting Rose because he's a one-and-done excuse kinda funny, but I'll be using it if/when he doesn't choose DePaul...

Not that it matters, but Koshwal never received an offer from Illinois so I'm not sure how we "lost" him. One and done excuse is stupid for a player of Rose's caliber but if Illinois lands Tucker than 3-4 years of Tucker likely makes more of an impact than Rose would ahve for one.

I was responding to a poster who stated that he believed they might one of him or those other 2 guys, so I'm not sure where you got the idea that anybody is saying you guys "lost" him.

I'm just glad we're still in the running for Rose and are the front-runner for Mac.

I was responding to the Sakamoto article. I probably could have been more clear.

My mistake.

The papers tend to lean towards illinois here, though. It would have been nice to have seen a bit more publicity about DePaul being in Rose's top 5 instead of having to hear so much about illinois not being in it. Can't complain since there's probably much more illini support around here anyways...

i'm not too sure about that. the article in the sun-times yesterday was definitely more favorable to depaul than it was to illinois. i'm not a big media conspiracy guy, but i think many illinois fans would find the assertion that chicago papers are more weighted to them quite humorous.

if anything, illinois may get more coverage because of late they've had much more success than depaul has. that's not a slight to depaul, either, because i've always liked it's basketball program and am a wainwright fan.

It ain't about the shoe or such. Rose will straight up get paid. I'm more concerned with the "loss" of Koshwal than losing Rose.

BTW, I do believe Weber needs to learn how to develop better relationships with different coaches in AAU and high school basketball. Even Matt Painter is mastering this in Indiana.

Well, the headline to the first article stated that illinois was no longer in the running for Rose instead of stating that DePaul, the team in Chicago, was. Just a small slight, but an understandable one since illinois has been more successful of late, as you mentioned.

Without sounding like hangar with illinois being my cubs, I'll just say that the DePaul coverage of late has been subpar. Last year when we beat wake forest, for example, there were no Chicago papers there and all that the papers gave was the generic AP story. There have been minor things like that for a while now. The coverage just has been lacking. But, it's not a huge deal and I hate to sound like I'm complaining. The only way they can get better coverage is by playing better basketball and winning more games. Here's hoping they can do just that.

Also, it's good to hear that you're a wainwright fan. I'm slowly warming up to him and can't wait to see more and more progress from our program...

yeah, i like wainwright. he seems like a straight-shooter. more importantly he seems like someone who covets that job and will stay awhile. they need that type of stability, just as illinois did when weber was hired.

and i do remember the wake thing last year. that was horrible. no excuse to not have someone at that game. none.

Dar Tucker's two leaders are now IU and ILL.

I like our chances as Gordon plays a similar position to Tucker.

Your an IU fan Aboz? Unfortunately, Teague decided to go to Wake as I expected. This is a huge loss for IU considering the need at PG after this season. IU made Rose's top 5, but I do not like their chances one bit. They are trying to get involved with Malcolm Delaney, but he currently favors VT and the late start won't help IU's cause. I was going to say that IU could have a very good recruiting class if they could land Teague and Tucker, along with current verbals(Ellis and McGee), plus another big man(Leuer, Blair, Holman), but they lost out on Teague(probably the most important of the bunch). With that said, Sampson is in line to land a top 25 calibur recruiting class(with an outside chance of a top 10 class) in his 1st year, and considering the recruiting restrictions that is pretty impressive in my book.

There's a pick-up scrimmage set for 4 PM today at AH.

and is open to the public.... get your ass there greasy! Go straight to Memorial Stadium afterwards. Time to put the tailgating on hold to do some recon for all of us.

Iowa is making some noise on the basketball end. Jake Kelly is in Iowa City this weekend and he still plans on making a visit or two but those close to him said it woudl be a shocker if he didn't come to Iowa to join his AAU teammate and anotehr Iowa commit Dairese Gary. If Kelly does committ to Iowa, he would join Gary and Jarryd Cole on what looks to be a solid 07 class.

Sources close to Iowa say that if Alford gets Kelly he will turn his attention to Jon Leuer who will be visiting Iowa City the weekend of the OSU football game. Leuer is rated 72nd overall by Rivals in terms of the 07 class.

The best part is our 08 class is looking outstanding as we already have verbals from Beas Hamga (34th best player by Rivals) and Matt Gatens (89th best player by Rivals). They are both in Iowa City this weekend along with Emmanuel Negedu (25th best player) who is supposed to be a very athletic wing man and right now Iowa tops his list and some say some sort of commit isn't out of the question this weekend. D'Andre Wiggins is also going to there as well (84th best player) but Iowa doesn't appear to be the favorite for him.

The final recruit of 08 that they are making a push for is Lewis Jackson, a 5-9 PG who is ranked 94th. His visit is an unofficial one and he's expected back for the Ohio STate football game (Iowa tops his list).

All in all Alford has really put together some really fine looking recruiting classes. Our upcoming class for this season was really looking like a top notch bunch but Alford ran into some trouble as a few players ended up being ineligible but its still a very solid class.

Just wanted to point this out cause I rarely see any Iowa updates in here :)

I had to work a volleyball tourney all day at the university gym, so I didn't get to check it out. However, I heard that it got pretty out of hand with some protestors from other schools and NBA scouts there. They ended up having to kick the public out and locking the doors.

And more recruting news, IU picks up a 6-10, 225 pound center from California Eli Holman. He looks to be a good pickup. I'm very pleased with Sampson's first class thus far, considering the circumstances.

FWIW, having a scrimmage open to the public in which a recruit plays is an NCAA violation.

Anyone with a Scout login want to tell me what's up with P'Allen Stinnett? Sounds like he's heavy to the Clones again, according to the front page of CycloneNation.com. Getting a 3*, 4* and 5* would sure answer a lot of my questions regarding McDermott's recruiting.

From my understanding, no NCAA violations were broken, as the public was locked out of the event.

I thought I heard that it would be a violation for pictures to be taken?

And supposedly Rose is going to visit all of the schools in his top 5...

It was just a pick up game, not an organized scrimmage. Allowing the public to walk in and watch guys playing a pick up game would not have been a violation. Coaches would not have been allowed to be present, however.

Report: Eric Gordon Not Yet Ready To Announce, Will Take Another Visit To Indiana University This Weekend

Brian Stinnette

September 19, 2006

Email Questions/Comments To [email protected]

According to the Bloomington Herald-Times Eric Gordon (Indianapolis North Central) is not yet ready to announce a final verdict on his collegiate destination, and will be taking another visit to the campus of Indiana University this weekend.

Gordon, a 6-3 shooting guard, ranks among the top Class of 2007 basketball prospects in the United States. This July, Gordon saw his recruiting soar to even higher levels while competing on the summer basketball circuit with Derrick Rose (Chicago Simeon) and MeanStreets Express.

According to the report, Gordon and his family will be in town to take in the Indiana/Connecticut football game, and to visit the Bloomington campus. Last weekend, Gordon took an Unofficial Visit to the University of Illinois.

Earlier this month, Gordon visited Indiana University along with Rose. Rose, a Top 5 player nationally in his own right, visited Notre Dame last weekend. Gordon tagged along when his younger brother, Evan, took an Unofficial Visit to Notre Dame two weeks ago.

Gordon and Rose are entertaining the possibility of playing together. Indiana would love to pair the duo together for the 2007-08 season. Ideally, Indiana would like to have D.J. White return for 2007-08, combine him with the duo of Gordon and Rose, make a run at an NCAA title, and then send them all off to the NBA. Memphis, DePaul, UCLA and Kansas are the four other named finalists with Rose.

Things can change in the world of recruiting on the drop of a dime. At one time, much chatter centered on Gordon attempting to recruit Rose to play with him at Illinois. Now the chatter centers on the Rose camp recruiting Gordon to play alongside of Derrick, who eliminated Illinois in August.

Meanwhile, Illinois is in the process of re-recruiting Gordon with the hope of getting him to re-commit to their program. Bruce Weber was in Indianapolis last week for a visit with Gordon ahead of him coming to Champaign this past weekend. Mike Tisdale (Riverton) and Bill Cole (Peoria Richwoods), who are verballed to Illinois, were also in Champaign this weekend. Tisdale ranks as the #13 Class of 2007 prospect in the state of Illinois, while Cole is ranked #21 in the state of Illinois for the Class of 2007.

Gordon's decision does not hinge on where Rose ultimately heads, but the consensus is that if he were to choose Indiana, then the Hoosiers would be in real, real good shape with Gordon.

Weber faces a formidable recruiting opponent in Indiana head coach Kelvin Sampson, who has Ray McCallum, who played against Gordon's father in high school, and Jeff Meyer, who coached Gordon's father in college on his staff. Weber can expect to see a lot of Sampson in the coming years as Indiana has intentions of recruiting Chicago hard. Sampson already has verbals from former Chicago Westinghouse star Jamarcus Ellis (Chipola Junior College) and Brandon McGee (Chicago Crane).

Leuer has committed to the Wisconsin Badgers.

http://www.madison.com/wsj/home/sports/ind...130&ntpid=1

In football news, supposedly in the Wisconsin- San Diego State game a graphic was put on the screen saying that John Clay and Kyle Jefferson (WR) as VERBAL COMMITMENTS to Wisconsin.

If this is the case it would be huge for Wisconsin to make sure that Clay does not leave the state. There have been a lot of rumors of him going to OSU, but so far nothing is set in stone.
