SSH2005
Brewers designated infielder Russell Branyan for assignment. The Brewers could keep trying to trade him before he has to go on waivers next week, but there have been no takers so far. His non-guaranteed, one-year contract worth $800,000 should be attractive to some team. I would think that the Twins would be interested in Russell Branyan at $800,000. They still need a third baseman because Tony Batista sucks.
thedoctor
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 12:05 AM) I would think that the Twins would be interested in Russell Branyan at $800,000. They still need a third baseman because Tony Batista sucks. that would be a good addition if the twins were looking to build a team of suck. although judging by a few of their offseason moves, branyan's probably en route now. SSH2005
The Tigers could also be interested in Branyan. They would go with a platoon of Branyan and Inge at third base.
WSoxMatt
Why would you platoon Inge with that useless piece o crap!! Why would you platoon Inge period?

Why would you platoon Inge period? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ever look at a player's splits? Branyan rakes righties but sucks against lefties. Inge hits lefties really well but stinks against righties. SSH2005
Third baseman Russell Branyan cleared outright waivers yesterday and will be placed on release waivers today. He'll probably go unclaimed again. If so, the Brewers will offer him a minor league contract to stick around. Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brew/jan06/384521.asp Any team could have claimed Branyan for $20,000 while on outright waivers. He will be available for $1 while on release waivers, the same price the Brewers paid to claim infielder Zach Sorensen from the Los Angeles Angels this off-season. Any team claiming Branyan would be obligated to pick up his $800,000 contract for 2006. That deal is not guaranteed, meaning the Brewers - or any team claiming him - must pay only $160,000 should he be cut in spring training. There has to be some team out there that will claim Branyan for a buck. $800,000 isn't much money at all for the power production Branyan could provide and if the team wanted to cut him loose in spring training they would only have to pay him $160,000. Branyan can also play some LF and 1B. Hell, we gave Timo a million to sit on the bench last season. My money is on the Twins to pick him up. Tony Batista sucks. Milkman delivers
Ha, a dollar. That's hilarious. It sounds so stupid that it's like a joke.
SSH2005
The Devil Rays are expected to sign Russell Branyan to a minor league contract. As much as we'd like to see Sean Burroughs succeed, Branyan immediately becomes the Rays' best option at third base. He'll probably be a reserve initially, but he'll be quite a sleeper. AddisonStSox
I've always loved this guy. If any of you ever have the opportunity to watch this guy take a little bp, do yourself the favor and watch. He hits moon-shots. Absolute bombs.
