JohnJeter
This Detroit team is a lot tougher than their record indicates, but I still don't think they can catch the Sox.

JohnJeter
Here's an quote (caps mine): ''It will be tough, especially in the American League, to get your bench players playing time, and especially when a young player is coming up,'' (Manuel) said. ''[borchard] will play. He's a good athlete, and I THINK HE CAN SURVIVE." Survive? If by "survive" does he mean Borchard can maintain the same excellent numbers he's posted in Charlotte this year? I'd think a slight dropoff would be acceptable since he's hitting big league pitching now.
Chisoxfn
All I know is I can only hope he can make the transition much like Patterson did. Patterson sucked last year, but he's got quick hands and never ever hit AAA pitching but slowly things are turning out for him. As long as the Sox don't need Borchard to be a stud right away and they go with that approach he'll be fine. But like Cerb pointed out, this team has huge flaws with OBP and thats about the most important offensive stat there is. Teams that score a lot of runs will have high obps. JoshPR
What's the point of having men on base when you can't do anything with that??? 2 ON NO OUTS, DOes Manuel Bunt??? Hardly not. Do players settle down and shorten there swing?? Not!!! Always want to be a 3-run Hero..What is there to do when they look at a pitch right down Broadway and they don't swing?? and they swing at s*** pitches??.. And last but not least why do you want men on for when all there going to do is hit in to the Doogone 6-4-3 Double Play??? I agree that OBP is a factor but there's other factors too
JohnJeter
By "make the transition", do you mean maintaining those excellent numbers he's amassed in Charlotte this year? Since this is a rebuilding year, this is a good time to get him some big league ABs. Then he'll be ready for the Championship Season in 2005 when all of the Sox youngsters and prospects have developed.
Loveland
Every so often you get the player who comes up from AAA and actually hits better than in the minors because the pitching is better. These are the guys who swing at everything and because there is more in and around the plate they actually do better in the ML. Dare we hope this will be the case with Mr. Borchard?? I think Rex hit it on the nub in another of these threads... Borchy will turn it around... but only after being sent back to charlotte.... he needs this taste of MLB... and go back to the hitting coach he was doing well with (now at AAA, with walkers promotion)
JohnJeter
I think our lead on Detroit is comfortable enough so that we can do such tinkering and experimenting. However, Cleveland does concern me.

Its still, since its on a different server.... http://puentemundial.com/[email protected]@14%40.ee947c6 That is the link to the WSox board we set up there. This might be a bit tricky as all the instructions to sign up are in spanish... hopefully josh will be on soon and give us a run down on what to click on... albiet i got thru it so it cant be that bad... Just remember to verify the email they send you when you signup so u can post over there. All the buttons are in the same place (read new... etc) just in spanish... so spaceially (SP?) its set up the same..
