Court TV

Mike Marlowe fully admits that he sometimes gave George Gillespie a hard time in that AOL chatroom.

But never in his wildest imagination did he expect to be sued in court for what he characterized as "razzing."

"We gave him crap," said Marlowe, a 33-year-old welder in Fayette, Ala. "I'm not going to deny it. I teased him and he teased me back. He gave it back better than he ever got it."

A generation ago, such petty personal beefs might have been settled with fists outside the corner bar, but now it's the Internet age — and Ohio resident George Gillespie instead filed a $25,000 lawsuit against two erstwhile cyber chums he met in the sprawling 900-room, mostly anonymous society that makes up AOL's chat universe.

As always, more, much more than that, at the link.

The complaint states that Marlowe actually drove from Alabama to Ohio to photograph the plaintiff's home, which he then posted on the Web. He also allegedly went to the courthouse in Medina to dig up personal dirt on Gillespie, which he then also disseminated over the Internet.

This sounds familiar. Didn't someone do this to Ncorgbl?

To a degree, but nothing was ever photographed. At the time though, it was mentioned that what the person did was WAY overboard.

I agree. If you read the story and the plaintiff is being truthful, he's got grounds for this suit, IMO.

IIRC a couple posters at WSI gathered some facts and after ncorgbl declined to come clean on his own, they outted him. I believe they even called his ex-wife and possibly his kids. That was IMHO over the line.

I understand some sock puppet type stuff, but he took it well beyond normal and used it to attack too many people. Actually I'm a grandmother in Toronto living with my 27 cats and a dog.

I think the one person even had connections with some legal folk or something (cops?) and was able to get some stuff, and that was what really shocked most people. NCor deserved to be outted, but not to the degree he was.

Why do I have to miss all of the exciting stuff?  Can someone fill me in?

Most of it occured on another message board. Ncorgbl claimed, among other things, to be a Sox shareholder, would personally talk to Reinsdorf, Thomas, etc. Would back his claims by claiming insider information. Sadly, some people were gullible enough to believe it. When his insults and trolling behavior became to much, he was outted. Someone posted his personal information. Where he lived (possibly not the exact address), his occupation, etc.

Of course, everything he claimed on-line was a lie.

If you put it all on a scale, what he received was probably worse than he dealt, but some would disagree with me on that.

I rarely visit that other site, perhaps someone who posts both places may have a better memory.

Lost in this was Ncorgbl, at times, could be witty, and had a decent mind for the game. But instead of backing his opinion as John Q. Public, he pretended to be someone else.

WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT BULLSHTTING CHAMPION OF ALL TIME.

The guy was clinical. When you consider how much time and effort he invested into fabricating this entirely fake person, it was psychotic.

I found it amazing that so many people took his online ramblings to heart as much as they did. Seriously, who did he REALLY hurt?

He gathered enemies at an amazing rate. I will accept Steff's word that there was more and that would tip the scales. I thought he needed counseling.

I too, am amazed that anyone would believe him. He was caught in so many lies. The closest thing to an insider I've ever believed has been Steff. She has been 100% accurate.

I don't think he "hurt" anyone.. but as evident on this and other sites.. fans are hungry for "insider" info. I know he knew "someone" and at one point was told some information that he repeated and the monster was created. I didn't follow his posts until he was about to be exposed and people at the Sox got involved. His comments made the rounds to many of the higher offices.

I was out of touch while all of this happened. I always thought he was tight with folks like Steff and what not and believed him. Wow I thought he just got made and left I really believed him. Man do I feel like a fool. I thought there was more tension to the issue and why it was never brought up. Kind of like whatever happend to Hot Sox Chick???

The guy seemed to be decent enough but I guess I am really gullible.

This sounds pretyy interesting, who ratted him out and why???? He seemd harmless enough.

Didn't happen here, and basically someone got tired of ncorgbl's b.s.

Despite offers from me to meet up with him, I never met him in person once.

He talked a good story and was never really dumped on by those trusted on the various sites so I tended to believe him. I just assumed you knew him, huh.

He seemed to pick fights with those I didn't really like so I had no problem with him.

Corg had a 'god" complex when it came to that board and it needed to be dealt with. Did the 'out-ers' cross the line...maybe....everyone will have their own opinion but it needed to be done and it achieved the desired effect.

Corg had a bad habit of taking fights from one thread and carrying it over into others...to the point of harrassing other posters in every thread. It was sad......though i don't think alot of people believed what he claimed.
