I doubt it.  Most stadiums don't even use an organ.  I think the Sox will only have an organ until Nancy doesn't want to do it anymore.

I think you're correct. If she wasn't such a popular 'fixture' around the park, they probably would have phased her out by now. That would have been a PR nightmare though, and they knew it.

Nancy made no bones about the fact she was not happy how they fazed her out during the last decade.

I don't think she held anything against the Sox, but she didn't like the way the atmosphere around the game changed.

Oh well, Nancy was a fixture, but in the last few years she only played the organ for opposing players.

A good run that will soon come to an end.

Her problems began and ended with Rob Gallas. She has only the best things to say about how the Sox have treated her since Brooks came in. She also has said that Jerry Reinsdorf is a wonderful man.

I'm glad she's back for another go, but this is clearly a phasing out. I wonder when she will be eligible for the HoF. Can her "number" be retired.  :D

Sounds to me like this was her choice, not the Sox pushing her out the door.

I've been sitting on this waiting to hear from Nancy, but since the news is out, I'll tell you what I know. I talked to her in December, and she said that she was requesting days only for a couple of reasons:

1) the drive home late at night was starting to become a real bother to her;

2) she feels that the people who come to the park are more "her crowd."

The last time I talked to her, she had sent in a counter-offer to the Sox that she felt they would accept. Apparently they did.

Great! This is one area where "it's a business" shouldn't figure into the equation. Nancy should be able to go out on her own terms. Next time you see her, give her a hug from an appreciative Sox fan.

Hal is definitely the source on this one. Thanks for confirming Hal.

I assume you meant to say that the people who come to the park for day games are more "her crowd"?

That makes sense, if that's how it's supposed to read.

To me, the canned music seems more appropriate during night games for some reason.

Organ music at a day game feels like a true baseball experience. It's nice.

How much does an organist make?

I doubt she makes much from the White Sox. Organists are a dying breed. I really doubt the Sox will have one after Nancy calls it a day, but with this new arrangement, I believe she will only work 28 dates in 2006, she's liable to be there another 20 years.

I'd bet she makes a lot more than you'd think she would make. Jerry takes care of his loyal followers.
