SSH2005
KW still has work to do to patch holes in the bottom of the pitching staff, outfield and I think one more utility infielder. The open spots could kill a team if filled with, say Keven Walker in the pen and another Perez in the OF. There is also no plan B I can discern in the event either Kong or Thome get dinged for a while, who DH's? There are lots of candidates already on board and KW may have more moves up his sleeve. ST will be entertaining to watch as this plays out. But I would not call the White Sox complete yet. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can't have a stud backup at every position. It just isn't feasible. Mackowiak and Borchard (I assume) will back up the outfield and Mackowiak or Gload could be used at first base in case one of Konerko or Thome gets injured. Having Mackowiak is nice because he can play almost every position and even hit a bit.

Stupid KW doesn't have any for us

The Beast
I think this indicates the White Sox do not want to negotiate with Boras and that we're saying bye bye to Crede after this year. Just my assumption. You're probably saying "no s***" when your reading this post.

The Beast
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 06:04 PM) Still control him for 2 more years Oh, it all makes more sense now. I was going to say, why would we be happy about a 1 year deal, avoiding arbitration? So we get exclusive rights for 2 more years, like we had with AJ's one year last year BEFORE HIS arbitration. I'm more familiar with NFL deals, so this makes more sense to me now.
SoxFan1
I really didn't know what to make of this deal when I first heard of it's officialism (yeah, I made that word up). While I am glad we avoided arbitration, I am a bit stumped as to why a longer deal couldn't be worked out. But hey, if he produces like he did in the playoffs, 2.675 millions is nothing. Do you know what a good baseball agent's prerogative is? It's to get his client to free agency inorder to make the most money possible for both him and his client. Scott Boras also only gives out 1 year deals a lot of time on arbitration eligible players especially ones who are seamingly underachieving. With Crede's 1 year contract Boras has the option to sign Crede to another 1 year deal next year at a considerably higher price if Crede has a break out year in '06. Also if he did end up going to arbitration after a Crede breakout year he would stand to make much more money, a muti year contract holds Crede to a set salary for '07 which means if Joe does have a breakout season he won't see a raise for it. From the Sox' point of view a 1 year deal is also the safe way of going about things considering the question marks surrounding Crede's back. And for the record, I know that every agent is out to get their clients the most money. That's their job.
