And what did Larry Johnson do his first couple seasons?  NOTHING.  I can't believe how everyone seems to have written Benson off after just one season.  Thomas Jones played great and we were winning.  He got into camp late (blame him or blame mgmt, I don't care) and he's gonna have a full off-season and training camp (barring injury) to really adjust to the NFL.

He will be a star in this league and the type of workhorse running back that I love.

Larry Johnson is a freak example where his predecessor completley destroyed his value. LJ came out of PSU on the backs of Ki Jana and Enis, 2 very high picks who busted out. When LJ came out, people could not get that out of their head.

As for Benson, sure we can put him in the "we shall see category", but that goes against all the reasons why the Bears drafted a RB in the first round last year. I can remember the pitch, about how RB's make the most impact their first year and how RB is the easiest transition from college to the NFL.

Benson has set himself back. I have no sympathy for supposed "Low ball" offers that are in the range of $30mil. I have not seen anything from him since he joined the Bears besides a suspect "I should be starting attitude".

I think Benson can still turn the corner, he just needs to dedicate himself and realize that he is talented, but he is not so talented that he does not need to work.

Also LJ will be paid less than Benson next season, and he did not feel that he was being "low balled". Benson is making more money than most people will make in their entire lifes, yeah its a business but businesses do not always make the most profit maximizing plan. Some times the outside costs are so great that the money just does not matter.

I didnt write anyone off, I dont like the bears or their players, and yes I know larry johnson had to wait a couple of years.

Just my own opinion, who says that Benson is gonna be just as good as johnson because he has to wait on the shoulders of thomas jones.

Right there you completely made anything you've said in this thread null and void because you've showed you have a bias against the Bears.

Yes, thats true. You do have your own opinion. But stating that you have a blatent hate for the Bears and all their players (which includes Benson by the way), voids your opinion on the matter in my book. Thats my opinion :P

Bit of pwnage there

I agree with multiple points on this thread...I do agree with Badger that Benson was supposed to be a very good back this year, due to the easy transition from college to pros for running backs, and a lowball offer of $30 mill is crazy. However, you have to take into consideration that Benson is being paid more than LJ next year due to him being the 4th pick overall, instead of the 27th pick overall. That undoubtedly has a huge effect on it.

Yep, but I'm not expressing my opinion on the matter of Benson being a bust or not etc. :P

That more has to do with the "agent" than with the player. You see the agent has to try and get the best deal, so that they can go out and get more clients. That is why it takes so long to get draft picks signed, eventhough the basic outline for what the pick is worth is already out there.

It is up to the player to tell their agent that they want to get into camp, that their career is what the agent should be worrying about.

There are just no underpaid top 10 draft picks, and when a player holds out for a pittance, that is what $1mil is when you are talking about $30mil (or 3% of the contract) you have to question their desire and want to be there.

I believe that had Cadillac been drafted by the Bears he would of signed for less than Benson, because getting the biggest contract was not as important as being the best rb.
