Kyyle23
I was reading the story about Jimmy Piersall on chicagosports.com, and I noticed this blurb at the bottom. On the outs? Marc Silverman and Carmen DeFalco could be out as hosts of the 9 a.m.-noon shift on WMVP. The pair have been off the air since last Friday, missing the post-Bears playoff analysis. Officially, station executives are saying their absence is "an internal matter." "Carmen and Silvy," however, did not perform well in the fall ratings. WMVP is looking to expand its talent pool. Among those taking a swing in the morning slot this week have been Jonathan Hood, Jeff Dickerson, ESPN's Sean Salisbury, WBBM-Ch. 2 sports anchor Mark Malone and the Tribune's Steve Rosenbloom. Just as I was getting to really like those two, ESPN pulls the plug. I hate the cutthroat nature of the radio business, noone ever gets any decent time to gel and become cohesive with the person they are working with. Radio gives you a quick second, then the hook if you dont do well in the ratings. Its really too bad, I like both of those guys alot, and together they were starting to sound so much better. Gotta love the random arbitron ratings ruling the roost.
GoodAsGould
as soon as Kevin Wheeler quit sporting news radio or whatevr I was done with all sports radio... aboz56
Why don't they just put on the Herd?
Kyyle23
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 10:41 AM) Why don't they just put on the Herd? Please god I hope we dont have to listen to his neverending nasal drip. Besides, ESPN1000 wants local guys, they cant be syndicating all but two shows in their lineup. The Critic
I like DeFalco a lot, but Silvercub is so f***ing annoying that he kept me from listening to their show. I also miss the Kevin Wheeler show. That new overnight host (Stein?) is boring, and I never listen to 670 overnight anymore.

thedoctor
not surprising. i kind of thought something would happen after the last arbitron's came out and the score made up so much ground.

I can't stand that whining little b**** boy that goes by the name of Silvy. He really annoys me. LOL. Silvy had to eat alot of his words this year. Carmen had a hell of a year to enjoy, and Silverman had to just sit through it. He is a true pessimist though, he isnt a flip-flop cub fan who goes just to drink. He actually has some intelligent things to say, but those things are tempered by his loyalty to the Cubs, and it makes him sound really whiny. maggsmaggs
I like Carmen and Silvy, but if I had to have another pair, I would like JD and Mark Malone. BTW, did anyone hear J Hood and Steve Rosenbloom today on ESPN 1000? They were god awful. Edited January 20, 2006 by maggsmaggs

Kalapse
The only sports radio show in Chicago that I can tolerate and it's getting pulled? Hmm I started listening to sports radio again because of them, I guess I'm done with all that.

Not to mention the whole ordeal when they pissed the Chairman off when they interviewed him. "They conducted the interview under false pretenses" coming right from Jerry's mouth. Reinsdorf hasn't done an interview with ESPN 1000 since I believe, and along with Moronotti's show one would have to think these incidents at least contributed to losing the broadcast liscensing for the Sox and Bulls. White Sox Josh
I like DeFalco. What about J. Hood and Carmen? If Carmen isn't gonna do 9-noon does that mean he will be back as Bulls Pre Game host?

AddisonStSox
That was a very listenable show. It may not have been groundbreaking, but, it was very enjoyable. Although I tended to side with DeFalco on just about everything, Silverman was a nice compliment and I really thought that their show was one of the better things WMVP had going. If I were a betting man, I'd say their show wasn't doing well with the 25 and up demographic that I'm sure they would like to target at lunch-time. It's a shame. If they were to give that insufferable J Hood a show in that time slot it would be a crime against humanity.

They're friends outside of work and compliment eachother nicely.
Punch and Judy Garland
I think J Hood just sounds weird on 1000. He was a D teamer at the Score so it'd be strange to have him in a good slot on 1000. He's ok for late night or another insignificant time but I think he'd get eaten alive in a competitve timeslot. Carmen and Silvy did not contribute to ESPN1000 losing the broadcasting rights to the Sox and Bulls, thats just silly. Sure, they pissed off Jerry Reinsdorf at the time, but I dont think Jerry was that pissed that he would carry a vendetta against them and get them taken off the air. Its a ratings thing in radio. If you have them, you are all good. If you dont, you dont have a job.
