kevin57
Page 1 of the Sports section in the Cubune announces that Jimmy Piersall, a fourteen-year baseball contributor at the SCORE, will be cut loose. Of course, the speculation is that Jerry Reinsdorf told the station that will carry the Sox to let him go while WSCR insists no such influence was at work. In the article by Ed Sherman the following commentary was offered: "Quite simply, [Harry Carey and Jimmy Piersall] were the best TV duo ever in this town, or any town." Agree or Disagree? santo=dorf
Thank God. I suppose the Score didn't want to hear him kissing Patterson's ass while he's in Baltimore.
G&T
I think Sherman is making a bit of a conspiracy out of nothing. The guy couldn't even remember player's names. I really can't say I felt he said anything meaningful, especially with Stone working for the station.
Steve Bartman's my idol
I agree. I can't believe they ever called Piersall the Score's baseball "expert".
Flash Tizzle
QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) I agree. I can't believe they ever called Piersall the Score's baseball "expert". Only Murph did. Now who will he complain about the Cubs with? South Side Fireworks Man
But the highest high, his partnership with Harry Caray, proved to be legendary. Quite simply, they were the best TV duo ever in this town, or any town. Hired by Bill Veeck at the end of 1976, Piersall was the perfect match for Caray. Both men were irreverent, brutally honest and had tremendous passion for the game. The end result was a wildly entertaining broadcast, complete with cheers and barbs for the Sox. Harry & Jimmy were the best ever--Amen! Jimmy forgot more about baseball than most people know. The Critic
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 04:38 PM) Harry & Jimmy were the best ever--Amen! Jimmy forgot more about baseball than most people know. Maybe, but he HAS forgotten it all. He has a great past ahead of him.

greg775
Back in the day, Piersall was really funny as Harry's Sox sidekick. I haven't heard him in years since I moved from the greatest city in the world. Good for Jimmy to remain relevant until the age of 76. JoeBatterz
Piersall was entertaining. For a sport that remembers its past like no other, it was nice to have an old timer around talking about the good old days. If you wanted him to be an expert on today's games, you would be disappointed. If you expected him to speak/outtaof his mind, you were in for a rare treat.
