Kyyle23
http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds..._loves_it_here/ Also yesterday, there were ongoing conversations between the Sox and Indians aimed at bringing outfielder Coco Crisp to Boston. The deal, according to a major league source, probably would cost the Sox top prospect Andy Marte and probably would include multiple players changing sides. Crisp, who hit .300 with 16 homers and 70 RBIs while making $365,000 last season, is seeking more than $3 million in arbitration. The 26-year-old has been atop the Sox' list for some time. The Sox also continue talks with other teams regarding a successor to Johnny Damon in center field, but a high-ranking Sox official shot down two rumors circulating yesterday. One rumor making the rounds had Steve Finley, the Giants' fourth outfielder, coming to Boston for David Wells. Another apparently inaccurate rumor had the Sox sending Arroyo to Cincinnati in a deal for Ken Griffey Jr., who is signed with the Reds through 2009 and could veto a deal to Boston. Trading away Marte already? Is Theo actually VAFan in disguise?
Felix
This deal has been around for awhile, even before Epstein came back.
Balta1701
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 06:38 PM) http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds..._loves_it_here/ Trading away Marte already? Is Theo actually VAFan in disguise? Actually that deal would make a lot of sense...Marte simply isn't as good as the BoSox fans have advertised (he's not Wade Boggs, at least not yet), and they have both Lowell and Youkilis in front of him, so if they can get a quality player for this year by trading him, that may be a smart move. They have enough money that they can sacrifice prospects to try to win every year and just assume that more people will come along with time. I think it makes sense for Cleveland too, because not only will Boone not be there forever at that price, but Marte will probably put up better numbers than Boone did last year. If I'm Cleveland I try to get a little bit more out of Boston if I can since they're obviously desperate for a CF, but that makes sense as a deal from both sides. Kyyle23
The Epstein reference was a joke.
DBAHO
Now Mota invovled in a 6 player deal? In the most recent version of a deal that has been undergoing regular revision, the Sox, according to multiple major league sources, would be giving up third base prospect Andy Marte, setup man Guillermo Mota, and another player, presumably a prospect. The Indians would send Crisp to Boston along with two other players/prospects. As of last night, the deal appeared to have some parts moving into and out of the equation. witesoxfan
Prior to the deal, Cleveland will send Betancourt/Rhodes to Philly for Jason Michaels. The Red Sox are then probably going to sign Alex Gonzalez...the Marlins SS that actually plays defense in clutch situations instead of Stone Hands Alex.
