GoodAsGould
AL Sleeper: Texas Rangers - Might get some heat for picking them but they have a legit starting staff now and some decent bp arms.... and they have always had the bats to score a lot of runs..... and im not 2 impressed with A's/Angels. AL Bust: Toronto Bluejays - Burnett is overated couldnt get it done in the NL in a pitchers park so not 2 scared of him.... While BJ Ryan is a stud their closer wasnt the problem last year I think Miguel Batista did a fine job..... just not 2 impressed with them remind of of the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL b4 season started with all the hype. NL Sleeper: Cubs - The Astros in my opinion are on the decline especially if the Rocket doesnt return... I think their going to have a pretty lousy season.... Also while still good the Cardinals have gotten worse and Cubs actually played well against them. While their off-season wasnt anything special they have a good bullpen now with a 7-8-9 guys and I think Prior/Zambrano/Maddux get it done... and hell Wade Miller or Kerry Wood maybe 1 of them turn out to do good. Pierre going to help a lot and I think if they are smart and use Todd Walker at 2B and that Cedeno kid at SS they will be pretty good. Jaque Jones needs to improve from last season but I think they arent that bad. Also its fun to pick them because everyone is going to rip me for it. NL Bust: Astros - Lidge seems to be on decline and astros were shopping him.... their hitting sucks and I dont see any reason it will get better and Clemens is gone.....hey they shocked everyone 2 years running with great 2nd halfs maybe they do it again. WilliamTell
The more I think about it, the less I think the Brewers are a sleeper team. I've been hearing a lot about the Brewers being a sleeper team on radio shows which means to me, they are getting noticed and are expected to be very competitive this year. Felix
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) The more I think about it, the less I think the Brewers are a sleeper team. I've been hearing a lot about the Brewers being a sleeper team on radio shows which means to me, they are getting noticed and are expected to be very competitive this year. I agree with you, but it depends on what type of sleeper they have them as. I have them as a sleeper to win the division, but saying they are a sleeper to win the wild card isn't really accurate, since they are probably one of the favorites. DBAHO
AL Sleeper - Toronto. Hard to really pick a sleeper in this conference, was thinking the Mariners, but they won't win in that division. The Blue Jays at least have a chance to steal a wild card spot. Bust - Angels. They've lost Molina, Washburn and Byrd to name a few, and they're still going to play Darrin Erstad everyday (he of the sub .700 OPS). Unless, they're smart and play Casey Kotchman everyday, can't see em winning the AL West at this stage. NL Sleeper - Diamondbacks. Probably a crazy pick to most people, but I like what they're building down in the desert. They've upgraded the bullpen, and they've allowed for players like Tracy and Green to move back into the positions they're most comfortable in. Getting Batista back, if they make him a starter, I think was a very unheralded pick-up along with Hudson who's probably the best defensive 2nd baseman in baseball, so that'll definitely help their pitchers. In that division, 4 teams can realistically win it, and they can callup players like Stephen Drew at mid-season to giv em a boost. NL Bust - Dodgers. Don't get me wrong, they've made a lot of acquisitions, but they're sort of like Boston, need a lot of things to run smoothly. Can the likes of Nomar and Drew stay healthy, and can Gagne come back sucessfully from his injury? I didn't like the Tomko pick up (4th starter not good), and although Seo has a good 2005, he's never really had to start games for a whole season, and his 2004 was quite brutal. Dam8610
Sleeper: Mariners. Two word reason why they have a chance: Felix Hernandez. Bust: Blue Jays. All that spending for nothing as they'll finish 3rd or 4th in the AL East again
