Rex Kickass
I'm surprised Good Night and Good Luck got in instead of Syriana. I could see best picture going two ways. If Hollywood wants to make a statement, it's going to be "Luck." If Hollywood makes the popular pick, it'll be "Brokeback."

Rex Kickass
Critics. And a lot of people actually. It's grossed over 50 million dollars in revenue in the last seven weeks and is still in fewer theaters than the average wide release movie. But I've only seen one movie on the whole list. That was Narnia.
Flash Tizzle
George Clooney must be furious about now. No nomination for either best director or film. Don't know what the piece of s*** Capote is doing up there. I'm glad to see Munich mentioned for Best Picture. I read several predictions where it was left off. RibbieRubarb
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 09:13 AM) Popular with who? Pretty much everyone... Brokeback Mountain rode into about 80 more markets over the weekend and roped $6.5 million. At 1,654 theaters (nearly a 1/3 less than most new releases), the movie averaged a bustling $11,856 per site, and the total sits at $51 million after 8 weeks of limited release. Its production budget was $14 million. Also it has a fresh rating of 86% from rottentomatoes.com, which is a combination of hundreds of critics and audience reviews of the film. (60% is considered good). Its selling out theatres and 86% of people seeing it think it's great. So...I would say "popular"

No nomination for either best director or film. Don't know what the piece of s*** Capote is doing up there. I'm glad to see Munich mentioned for Best Picture. I read several predictions where it was left off. Umm...Clooney has four nominations. He is nominated for Directing "Good Night & Good Luck", writing "Good Night & Good Luck", producing "Good Night & Good Luck"(since it is a Best Picture candidate), and acting in "Syriana". NorthSideSox72
Two thoughts: 1. Syriana as an original screenplay? Uh no, its an adaptation. Why do they do this every year? Do they not know what an adaptation is? I remember seeing Thirteen Days nominated a few years ago as an original screenplay. Huh? I read the book, and they were factual events anyway. Just annoys me. 2. I'll add a third possibility to Rex's two (Brokeback and Luck). If Hollywood wants to avoid political messages entirely, they'll go with Crash. Which I thought was better than Brokeback anway (I haven't see Luck).

LosMediasBlancas
The Oscars are silly. How do they decide best actor when they didn't play the same part? They might as well lump male and female actors in to the same category.

Cknolls
For the 4th year in a row haven't seen any of the nominated movies. Last movie I saw was HP3. But I'll say Joaquin Phoenix, Paul Giamatti, Reese Witherspoon, Amy Adams, Crash for Directing and Best Movie. Broke will be shut out of the top 6 awards. No. Kind of like American Beauty to me. I liked it right after I saw it, but I'll never want to watch it again.
