Steff
Those f***in' accruals, total dead weight, I wish someone would fire them already. LOL.. Try explaining accruals to someone who knows nothing about accounting and the looks on their faces is priceless. "Why not just put everything in the right month the first time". Oh if business ran that smoothly, life would be a lot easier. I also love it trying to explain EBITDA. Or depreciation and amortization. Or why (and how) you calculate the tax provisions. Oye.. my head is spinning..

Steff
I'll give gim a head start Earnings before...... I love to hear people try to figure it out before they look it up. You'd piss your pants at some of the stuff people come up with. I had to interview this girl a while back. She thought she was so smart. On her application she called it "earnings before imputing taxes and departmental accruals". That just doesn't even come close to making any sort of sense. No one believed me. I had to show them the application. Sad thing.. our CEO wanted to hire her anyway

Oye.. my head is spinning.. ahh yes, Depreciation Expense and Ammortization on loans and such. Yep that stuff royally sucks. Does your company use Accrural Accounting? If so I'm assuming its cause its publicly traded? Also, to go into any college (4 year) you have to take SAT's unless you transfer from a 2 year (Junior College) or at least I'm pretty sure its everyone. There could be some exceptions. Some schools also require you to take SATII's although I think not as many of them are doing that. I know when I took them all 2/3 years ago, things were really changing and some people though there would be a new standardized test or that the ACT would get bigger. I never took the ACT but I heard it was an easier test. All I know is the SAT sucked cause I had to get up at like 6 am to take the damn test and I was up till midnight the night before having fun. I wasn't about to ruin my freaking weekend. The other reason they sucked was because so many people cheated the test by taking all those damn classes where they give you the answers. Screw that, just take the test and see how you do, thats my theory, lol. I've learned they weren't all that important. The grades you get once in college appear to be more important, but I could change that opinion once I'm out and into the real world, but I doubt it. Hell, highschool was for slacking off. Yes we do accruals. But it's the nature of the business and not that we're public. Transportation services rarely, if ever, are paid less than 45 days. So we have no choice. We've been private for over 100 years. Not too likely we'll go public anytime soon.
Steff
And thanks for the explination on the SAT's & getting into college. They didn't even have the SAT2 when I was in HS.. LOL. I feel so old.

I know Nat had straight A's. Again, I will have to check with with her to be sure. (***- I am not sure about UofC, Ivy Leagues, etc though.) The only colleges you didn't need to take the SAT's for was community college. In Illinois anyway. DePaul drfinitely required them. Half of our V-Ball team went there and I remember the huge fiasco when they had a tourney the day of the test. They had to get special permission to take it the following Saturday - they were in the state finals. They won! And I can't imagine North Western NOT requiring it. I have a few co-workers who's kids go there. I'm going to ask. I went to St Xavier which is a private catholic college.. they required it. Steff
This is what I was just told.. State public schools will accept without SAT IF you have ACT over 37, better than a B average, and acceptable refrence letters. ALL private schools require the SAT. North Western is a private school. This info came from a parent who's son attends there (finishing his 3rd year right now). I swear this is news to me. I always thought you had to take the SAT's to get into college. I have numerous buddies of mine in Depaul, Loyola, Champainge and NW, which is the toughest to get into. Half of them got in on their junior year ACT scores, GPA, recommendations and other peripherals. Nat had Ivy league HS credentials, very bright girl all-around. I don't want to speculate before asking her but the only other alternative is that she did take the SATs, bombed them and told everyone she decided not to take them to avoid embrassment. Highly unlikely but possible...But then how would she get in, lol? And how would that explain my frineds being in other schools without having to take [edited: SAT] ? (SAT II and various AP tests are another story altogether. Most of them got 4 and higher so they wouldn't have to take some of those course in college.) Considering that 36 is the highest you can get on the ACT......I find this whole situation rather comical...lol Depaul, Loyola are private schools as well, with tuitions of 20,000+. I did mention that in the start of this mess 10 years ago you did have to have SAT scores to get into anything other than community college - because I honestly believed that to be the case when I was graduating HS. Maybe things have changed? Money hungry college bastards. All they want is the $$ anyway.
