I've never really had any good presents for Valentine's day mostly because my past boyfriend was not all about dinner, presents, or really celebrating the holiday. I'm not rubbing it into anyone that won't be celebrating but feel free to share any sappy, funny, or embarassing Valentine's day stories about gifts.

Me and my wife celebrate Valentines day usually the week or so after the actual day. I bought her flowers the first year we were dating on valentines and she nearly killed me when she found out how much they cost. Her comment was that its a waste of time spending 3 times as much for items that you can get at another time for normal cost. Just remember people Valentines Day and Sweetest Day are 2 days a year. If you treat your wife/girlfriend/significant other great all the time, and keep the romance alive you dont have to go broke on these days to keep in good graces. It really makes a difference when you have kids. I have my inlaws watching our son here and there so we can still go to dinner from time to time, go to a movie, get out. Getting out once in a while alone is worth more than some chocolates and flowers once a year.

Do girls think traditional things such as flowers, cards, and candy are dull gifts, or do they still love them on valentine's day even though everyone seems to receive these things?

I believe what we're "supposed to do", is do the classic stuff, but put a little personalization into it.

71.. I don't like the $150 dozen roses either. They just die. But they are nice when the other gals in the office walk by ;) . A good alternative is ProFlowers (which is offering 2 dozen for $30 - I think- if you click on the microphone on the site (Stern Promotion) if you guys do buy flowers. I agree with doing little things all the time. You guys have no idea how far a little note or card for no reason goes. Jim travels occasionally for work and when he goes I pack him little notes or whatever to open. He leaves surprises for me all over the house or in the car when we don't drive together. It's cute, and shows you guys are thinking of us at a time we least expect it. And in the end it all equals sex so it's a win, win situation.
