I like this move,  between Munoz, Lopez, and Almanza one of those guys should give us the innings we need from our second lefty.

Any of those guys can't be any worse than Marte was last year.

I would STRONGY disagree. Marte was my least favorite White Sox, I mean, Timo>>>>Marte for me at least, but IMO, Munoz, Lopez and Almanza can be MUCH worse.

Yes but no at the same time. What I mean by that is ya I'm sure they can be worse but unless they prove themselves they aren't going to be thrown into pressure situations like Damaso was.

As long as one of these poor schlubs can at least get lefties out, we should be okay. Ozzie can use the guy who wins the job as a true LOOGY and play to his strengths. Let McCarthy, Hermanson, Politte, Cotts, and Jenks face everyone else.

How fast does he throw?

2003 Season

Confidence and health again were problems for Armando Almanza, whose raw stuff alone would rank him among the game's top lefthanded relievers. Almanza struggled to command his curveball, lost a couple of games on late home runs and had been relegated to mopup duty when elbow pain ended his season in late August. He underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs and did not make the playoff roster. Pitching, Defense & HittingWhen he's on, Almanza can overpower hitters with a live fastball between 92-96 MPH. He always has been a flyball pitcher, and that can get him in trouble when his stuff tails off. His slow curve upsets hitters when he can throw it for strikes. When he can't, they lay off it or pound it for hits. Almanza has a thick frame but is a decent fielder who holds runners well. He rarely bats.

2004 Outlook

Eligible for arbitration, Almanza could become an expensive luxury for a team with severe payroll problems. If he's not non-tendered, he could be moved in a deal for middling prospects. He should be healthy by spring training, when he'll need to reestablish himself as a top situational lefty.

Beck, I think you hit the nail on the head. Ozzie has seen this guy over a period of time and knows what he can do. At the least, Oz is doing him a favor and giving him a showcase opportunity. At best, he fills a need. Low risk some reward potential.

At the least, he sounds like a guy who is at the level of the other guys. Maybe others have a higher "ceiling". But this guy sounds like the "floor" that the others need to beat--being tough vs. lefty hitters.

I would substitute the word "could" for "should" in your statement. None of these guys has shown much at the major league level, but maybe they get lucky with one of them. Its worth a shot. Its not like they have to throw them in a real game to see if they can get the job done.

Almanza had had good K numbers more than 1 per inning, But he is equally wild and you can't have that from a lefty specialist. Javier Lopez ain't good either, Only thing is that he's a submariner.

Haha...

Didn't Cheat just recently say something along the lines of how Ozuna was like the 8th best prospect in the game at one point?

At the time, it was really not a bad trade at all for Florida, considering how much they were firesaling.
