IlliniKrush
QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 09:02 AM) If we have to play the Fins if the first round we pretty much have zero chance. They are much more skiled offensively than the American team. The Canadians have a ton of talent but my issue with that club is they seem to lack any real speed. Lots of big defenders and centers but no real speed to threaten a team on breakaways. I think that may be their demise. Finland made the Canadians look slow on the Ice yesterday. I was unable to see this game because i was at the Illini game. Thing with USA is, does it matter who they play at this point? I wanted to avoid Canada based on their talent and scoring ability, because i don't think we can score enough to keep up with them. And on any given night, i think Canada can play the best game of anyone out there...i think by the medal round we will see a very different Canada team, but we'll see. And yeah, we do have to play the Fins first round.
IlliniKrush
QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 01:49 AM) Which star players are not playing for the US team this time?? The biggest absence (read: guy who should be on team) is Ryan Miller, goaltender for the Buffalo Sabres. He was left off the team because he was injured all year and only played a few games by the time the roster was due. However, goaltending hasn't been the problem...like i hoped they'd do, they put Dipietro in net and he's been real solid. If you are referring to notable names that aren't there, Roenick is who you are looking for, though he doesn't deserve to be there anyway. IlliniKrush
QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 08:52 AM) So we get Russia on Tuesday? Let's hope Kovalchuk doesn't go nuts and have another 4 goal game. Russia has about 5 guys who could go off like that, that's the scary part. Spiff
The problem with Canada isn't speed; they have Heatley, Gagne, St. Louis. Their defensemen played like ass and couldn't pass through Finland's trap. Plus Canada couldn't finish the chances they did get (Thornton's deke/centering pass, Nash's breakaway). IlliniKrush
No i didn't, i wasn't up that early. I'll have to check out the highlights between periods of these games. Canada just scored to go up 1-0. Brad Richards.

watchtower41
I'm confused.... maybe becuase this isw all on during the day when I can't pay much attention. But I was under the impression that U.S. play Russia today to move on to the medal round, but since Kazakhstan won does that automatically clinch a birth in the medal round for U.S.?? Now we play Finland tomorrow?? Someone plaease fill this dumbass in..... all I know is the Fins havent lost.
IlliniKrush
We play Finland, yes. 930 tomorrow morning. Essentially we were in even if Latvia won because of goal differential. We play Russia today at 130 in a game that doesn't mean anything for us...but we need to play a good game and get some momentum going. IlliniKrush
Canada held on for the 3-2 victory in a very entertaining game.
Spiff
Forsberg is back I don't think Sweden will try and lose so they play Switzerland instead of Canada, but it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Canada didn't even play that great against the Czechs, they just got some weak goals early and barely held on.

IlliniKrush
What a great game to watch between USA and Russia. This was the best game USA has played thus far. I feel a lot better now that they've played this caliber of a game. Esche was in net so the 5 goals is somewhat misleading, but we do need to limit the turnovers tomorrow. I feel good about this team taking on Finland tomorrow, they played a real good game besides some defensive lapses.

whitesoxfan101
DiPietro better stand on his head if this team plans on going anywhere. Argh, I hope I'm wrong but I have a feeling Finland will end this tomorrow.
IlliniKrush
So i've declared today some sort of holiday...i just don't know what to name it. It involves skipping all my morning classes and watching all 4 quarterfinal games on 2 tvs. I've opened up the apartment to anyone that wants to watch games today. Should be sweet.
