Embarrased for her... hehe.. she's the one that suggested having the damn thing!!! This one.. is quite the piece of work. This is the one that brought her kid ONE DAY removed from puking his guts out with the stomach flu to our house on X-mas eve, got everyone sick and we couldn't visit Joey for a week!!

But but but it was Christmas, and she might have missed the presents!! ;)

I know we are having the talk about getting one of us fixed right now.

So many jokes, so little time. :P

I think it's tacky to have another "Shower" and accept gifts. So what if it's the first girl / boy. We had out first daughter Jun 30 and our second Dec 27. Would it have been OK to have a shower because we didn't have any winter baby clothes?

That is actually one of the acceptable reasons to have another one. :huh

OMG, asking for a Shower!! That is tacky. Now I'm on the same page and understand some of the comments.

You ran into that problem too huh?

Hand-me-downs are a great thing for parents but it helps if the kids aren't born in opposite seasons... :D

I recall my parents discussing this, oddly enough, last week. My cousin just had their third child (within five years) and are holding another baby shower. First two alternated between boy/girl, and the third one will be a boy. They're pissed off they have to needlessly buy more items even though the clothing and toys/etc from the first boy should be enough. They're not exactly rich, but they're not poor either. Sounds like something you'd base a Seinfield episode off.

Their opinions are probably biased as well. My dad is from a HUGE family--I'm talking 11 kids. My mom is from a slightly smaller family of 8 kids. Neither remember anything other than family attending the house to welcome the child for the other siblings. Didn't occur after first-born's either.

It's really just our society's view of children, and how we're all expected to shower them with gifts. Since large families are highly uncommon today; and people usually won't be willing to hold more than two showers, you rarely have these ackward situations.

One point I haven't seen mentioned, but it's possible I misunderstood what Steff said.  Are not showers supposed to be thrown FOR someone, like a friend, as opposed to being thrown BY the mother to be?

Oh... my sister-in-laws are throwing it... but she did ask for it. LMAO.. her PAY for her own shower.. for shame!!

That is the height of tacky.

If it was me, I would show up with a card and a list of what I donated in their name to the local crisis shelter.

Or a list of the things you bought them for the first shower.
