Ah fair fair trade I believe.

So your getting teix and reyes?

Who's  your first basemen now?

A rod is a bit better then teix

and bonds / reyes is a good watch during the season.

Its a fair trade, depends if you need teix. I personally dont have bonds on much of my teams due to risk, so i like the idea of trading him off. But do you think you could mayb get one small minor thing to add along with the trade possible? Still a fair trade.

Utley is currently my first baseman. So, I thought that I could move Teix in at 1st, Utley goes to 2nd, figgins moves to 3rd, and reyes goes in as my SS. Felt like it would strengthen my infield, and remove an injury risk from the team. I already have plenty of OF. Now for that pitching thing.....

I need a second opinion on this team. I think it's fairly good, but it doesn't wow me. It seemed like every time it was my pick there wasn't really anyone I liked available. Anyways:

C- Pierzynski

1B- D. Lee, Thome

2B- Weeks, Castillo, Hall

SS- Rollins, Hall

3B- Jones, Hall

OF- Ichiro, Hunter, Dye, Jenkins, Hermida

SP- Harden, Schilling, Haren, Blanton, Bonderman, Lowe

RP- Rodriguez, Street

I really don't know about that team. I'm not a fan of Ichiro in the 2nd, although my other options were Soriano (I think he'll drop off) and numerous pitchers (too early). I also think Lee is going to come back to earth a little, although again my other choices weren't stellar. The only picks I was really happy with were Harden and Jones. I need to have 2 of my other 4 starters play well, and I need Schilling and Thome to get back to their old ways. I hope I can draft better once my Soxtalk drafts come up.

Hows this team? I really think this is a good team.

12 team head to head league

1B P. Konerko

2B C. Utley

3B J. Cantú

SS C. Barmes

OF V. Guerrero

OF A. Jones

OF C. Floyd

Util T. Helton

BN R. Mackowiak

SP M. Buehrle

SP B. Webb

RP F. Cordero

RP B. Wickman

P F. García

P D. Haren

P Z. Duke

BN M. Cain

BN C. Capuano

I think my hitting is v. good, konerko - vlad - a. jones - helton - floyd, all dominate in homers, utley, cantu, etc. are all v. valuable.

My pitching has 2 studs - buehrle and Webb, has some good and average pitchers, has some risk (duke. cain). I have average relief pitching with wickman and cordero.

Anyone agree?

Id also keep oswalt.

understood.

Love, the pitching. If gagne goes down, you could be in trouble with RP, but SP is v. good.

SP : 9.5/10, only way you would get a 10 from me is if you had 1 or 2 more decent pitchers :P. I dont like the idea of having 4-5 bench hitters. but very good SP.

RP : 6/10, Gagne could be amazing, if he is then it immediatly boost it up to a 9/10. Jenks is a decent choice, sorda "unrpoven" but a solid reliever.

hitting wise? You got some studs, not a 10/10, but more so around an 7/10? mayb pushing 8/10 hitting wise.

Overall : 9/10, mayb 8/10, but very GOOD team. well done.

Ya i'm already looking into getting some more bench Ptichers i cant decide who to drop.

This happens to me too, I usually always tend to pick the same players each year, I mean if they have success in the past and work Im gonna keep taking them, this year people kept taking my picks and I was forced to take on some different players.

That is pretty ridiculous. You've got 2 guys that shouldn't make it out of the first and 2 others that shouldn't last past the 2nd. Plus Helton and Thome for some depth.

I'd trade one of those last two guys for one dependable ace-type pitcher. If they're going to ride your bench anyways, you might as well try to upgrade your team by trading them. Your staff would be pretty decent too if you do that. Going hitter heavy does generally increase your chances, but you still need at least some higher tier pitching, with an emphasis on strikeouts since anyone that is a safe bet for 200 is typically gone by the start of the 7th.

I'd usually avoid taking closers early. I never take one before the 5th round, and even then it either has to be one of the top couple of guys or the pickings have to start getting slim. All but the elite ones are one category specialists. Even the better ones can't offer that much help in K's, ERA, and WHIP. It doesn't look like you did this time judging by who you have and the strength of your lineup. However, the only closers that are really worth picking in the 5th or 6th round unless there is a monster closer run are Rivera, Lidge, K-Rod, Wagner, Nathan, Street, and Ryan (and maybe Cordero, but personally I'd wait since this is only his second year as a closer and his team isn't very good). A starting pitcher is generally going to help your team more than a closer of the same caliber.

Ah i see. - the one thing that is behind my philopshy is

Hitting is a key. Get that.

Then pitching, prime closers are good, Duno if mine on this team are really "studs" but anyway

Starting pitchign is easy to makeup for, at any point in the season really, so its not as much of a need.

Thanks for the team review, appreciate it, and i may do a trade of some sort like that.

interesting

I always try to draft a balance team but then my team just ends up being really horrible, never can ge the right combination. Id rather have pitching than hitting, theres always a hitter in free agency that busts out and I will go grab him to fill a gap in my hitting. Its always hard to find a pitcher in free agency usually they will start off hot and just fall down the line as the season goes on.

I think its the opposite

pitching = easier to get.

easier to get pitchers injured etc.

hitting = lesser injuries.

more of a use (5 tool players, rathern how pitchers are only 4-tool players (saves)).

And more harder to get.

It's easy to find decent hitters, but it's difficult to find highly productive hitters. You're very rarely going to find 30-homer hitters in FA, and if you do they'll probably have a low batting average or be a poor run scorer. With pitchers guys like Brett Myers, John Patterson, Dan Haren, Jose Conteras, Jon Garland, Zach Duke, and John Lackey were available either really late in the draft or in FA. Plus guys like Andy Pettitte, Chris Carpenter and Dontrelle Willis were drafted fairly late but provided elite performance. There are a few hitters that also did that, but not many finished with elite numbers, and the only ones I can think of that you might have had in FA were Roberts, Sizemore (but only because he started in the minors), Cantu, and maybe Ensberg depending on your league.

You still need to draft pitchers, but there are very few pitchers that are a solid bet for elite production across the board, so you should usually pass on starters if higher caliber hitters are available. You're probably going to finish better if you take hitters in the first 3 or 4 rounds than if you do the reverse. A combination like Wright, Abreu, Berkman, and Delgado in the first 4 is probably going to fair a lot better than something like Santana, Pedro, Halladay, and Rivera. The disparity is even worse if you can get any of the top couple of hitters.

Well..

wow.

Basically its

J. Peavy, and H. Blalock

for

A. Dunn And E. Chavez

seems like youd be weak in the util / of spot.

But A. Dunn ive never liked so I would say do the trade based on Peavy.

But it depends if you can find another of / util.

Thats a tough decision Tony:

If thats Luis Castillo on your bench you wouldnt need Loretta because Luis should post good numbers with the twins and steal alot, perhaps you could see if he would offer another pitcher in place of Loretta, because your staff would still need a pitcher even if you do get Peavy.

Dunn and Chavez are good players and Blalock just cant make up for that power loss

This team just got more interesting. I was able to pick up Pods off waivers, giving me a ton of speed. I'm in the process of trying to deal Ichiro, Pods, or maybe Rollins for some more power. Do you guys think I should try to get a pitcher? I'm not entirely sure about my rotation, but I think my lineup probably needs more help.

your team could use some power, many people tend to think lee wont post last years numbers and theres no telling what thome will do this year, a power hitter might help more , i kind of like your staff personally

I really dont think I do.

Peavy-Stud

Webb-Solid #2

Doug Davis-200+ K's, solid ERA

Livan-15 game winner, but I will probably trade him if a Peavy deal goes threw

Vazquez-I think he is going to break out this season

Liriano-If he starts for the Twins, going to put up VERY good numbers.

Pitching is so overrated in fantasy, and I think I have a good core. However, I rejected the current deal. I dont like the Chavez for Blalock part.

My view on pitching is completely different, i rarely take young players like liriano and dont trust them, and if a player has a bad year i probably wouldnt take him next season. I can see what your aiming for a guy to help you in each category.

I'm in the process of trying to commit highway robbery. One of my targets has Utley, Carlos Lee, and Bonds. The other has Tejada, Beltran, and Dunn. I'd love to find a way to get 2 out of 3 from one of these guys.
