i fail to see how you can argue with this. please dont split hairs about whether the french gov't knew about it or not. please. liberals in this board assume daily much worse about the american government based on way less information than we have in this situation.

cant have it both ways, lefties!

If it was REALLY made in France, why was "Made in France" spelled in English?

Yes they are.  They actually hate us even though our country has saved their asses a number of times.

Do you have any clue as to the countries that helped save our asses during the American Revolution? The fact that the France of Louis XVI took up arms on behalf of American independence should negate your right to hete them by your logic.

They did that because of thier hatred for England, not for any love of the new country.

Not entirely true, although the animositty over their defeat in the Seven Years' War was surely a factor.

They knew they would have lots of new market opportunities from a grateful new republic. The American cause also struck a chord with the ostensably absolutist French monarchy for some reason.

Bottom line though, whatever the reason, they came to our aid just as we came to theirs in later wars.

What the hell is it around here today with the blatent stereotyping? This is a bulls*** statement. STFU unless you've been there and know that they 'hate us'.

Never been to France, but I do know someone from France. He rented the guest house at my in-laws for about 6 years in the late 80's, early 90's. Still talk to him once in a while (OK, email, not talking), and there actually is alot of general anger towards the US, but it comes more from the younger people. His opinion was that they just don't realize the history between our two countries, and that some of it stems from jealousy. HE loved it here, has been back to visit a few times, but wants nothing to do with Long Island Ice Tea anymore! On his first American drinking experience with us, he chose that as his drink of choice. It was a loooooong night!

And lots of people here hate them despite that whole American Revolution thing.

Oh don't get into that, the French did it also because of their hatred for Britain, your enemies enemy is your friend sort of deal. I am grateful for them helping out none the less but we've returned the favor easily in both World Wars.

I'm French. Half my family lives there. I lived in Paris in 2003. They don't hate America or Americans. They don't much care for our current government. But then again, there's plenty of folk out here that don't either.

How about the fact that they sold weapons to Saddam in violation of the arms embargo.  Does that make them not trustworthy?

Didn't we sell weapons somewhere also against an arms embargo?

(also known as "Irangate") was a mid-1980s political scandal in the United States. President Ronald Reagan's administration sold arms to Iran, an avowed enemy. At the time, Americans were being held hostage in Lebanon by Hezbollah, a militant Shi'a organization loyal to Ayatollah Khomeini. The U.S. government claimed that using the arms would influence Iran to release the hostages. At the same time, Iran, which was in the midst of the Iran-Iraq War, could find few nations willing to supply it with weapons. However, the arms shipments began before the first hostage was taken, and ended a long time after the last hostage was released. The U.S. diverted proceeds from the sale to the Contras, right wing guerrillas engaged in an insurgency against the elected socialist Sandinista government of Nicaragua. Both the sale of weapons and the funding of the Contras violated stated administration policy as well as legislation passed by the Democratic-controlled Congress, which had blocked further Contra funding.

I guess we're not trustworthy either.

apples and oranges.

i just love this argument. since it would make us appear hypocritical, we should not do anything, and just say "f*** it". that is an excellent plan.

I can't believe I am hearing French support and the lame argument that they supported us in the revolution yeah that was 230 years ago!! and they only did that to oppose the British. I also think we have more than repaid them for that with saving them from Hitler.

No, you got it all wrong, they are eternally indebted to Stalinists for the Hitler thing.

I'm sorry, my eyes are rolling off of Earth's orbit. By your brilliant logic, our own government wouldn't be trustworthy considering we gave them chemical weapons that were used to kill Kurds in the Iraq-Iran war.
