greasywheels121
Andruw Jones Placed On Waivers Rob Bradford of Massachusett's Eagle-Tribune writes that Andruw Jones has been placed on waivers by the Braves. I discovered this via Buster Olney's blog. Said Olney: "In any event, I seriously doubt Jones will be playing for anybody but the Braves, despite the fact that in the next week, he'll earn the 10-and-5 right to veto any trade. But we'll soon know if anybody has placed a claim, and whether the Braves are willing to discuss a trade." Jones makes $13.5MM next season in the last year of his contract. He'll turn 30 in the beginning of the '07 season. Andruw's .350 OBP and .514 SLG are right in line with career norms. Baseball Prospectus expects him to remain at this level until about 2009. Remember, National League teams would get the first crack at Jones if more than one club puts in a claim. I could see the Cardinals and Astros putting in claims. If the Braves can't make a deal with the team that claimed Jones, they can always just pull him back.
Balta1701
There's going to be a lot of names put on waivers in the next few days/weeks, just to see who can clear and still be trading-deadline eligible.
WHarris1
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) Apparently the Abreu and Lidle signings did not spark the Yankees. We should skip past them easily in the Wild Card standings. [/sarcasm]
Yoda
The Cards have been beyond horrible since they were swept by the Sox (or so it seems). The stats aren't pretty since they left The Cell. I'd look 'em up but I'm too lazy to do so . . .

whitesoxfan101
Once you get to 40 is when it would actually get interesting. He's also 10 away from breaking Pete Rose's NL record of 44.
southsider2k5
Its routine. Every single player in all of MLB gets put on waivers at somepoint during August. Even Frank.
BigSqwert
Someone want to tell the Twins that they're playing a new and improved Royals team? They shouldn't be making this look so easy.

Kalapse
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 08:48 PM) Greg Maddux in the midst of a special game that's likely pissing off Cubs fans. Through 6 now. and it's a rain delay.
whitesoxfan101
They are asking for trouble if they send him out after the delay. The games start was also delayed by rain, and he sees the heart of the order if he stays for the 7th. Recipe for disaster, but we'll see what happens. El Barto
Usually a when a hitting streak reaches 30 than I am interested. I saw two of Utley's games during the streak so I am selfishly more interested than I usually would be.
whitesoxfan101
I'll post it now so that when it happens I get some dap: The Florida Marlins and their 15 million dollar payroll will win the NL Wild Card. They have the best talent in that race, and despite the youth, will win it due in large part to everybody else sucking.
Milkman delivers
I'm already impressed with Utley's streak, but he will become one of my favorite players if he can get it to 40. That'd be the best streak we have or will see in years. Having said that, he'll probably snap that streak tonight.
Balta1701
Kerry Wood opts not to have another reconstructive shoulder surgery, and to instead just rehab the thing. Yet another reason why no sane person should ever suggest signing him to more than a AAA, league minimum deal.
whitesoxfan101
Cubs lose 6-0 at Wrigley to the Pirates, as Carlos Zambrano had his 9 game winning streak broken in an awful outing (which would have been worse if not for the wind). The Pirates got a combined 3 hitter from Tom Gorzelanny (8 IP, 2H) and Josh Sharpless, whoever they are. Actually, Gorzelanny is an Evergreen Park native and former Triton CC star apparently, who grew up a Sox fan. He was drafted in 2000 by us in the 38th round, but instead went to college for 3 years and made himself a lot of money (ended up going in the 2nd round in 2003). Rowand44
Red Sox load the bases with an out in the 9th and down by 3, Javy Lopez grounds into a double play. Very nice. The Sox retake the wild card lead.

whitesoxfan101
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) Cincinnati 57 53 .518 - Arizona 55 54 .505 1.5 Los Angeles 55 55 .500 2.0 Colorado 53 55 .491 3.0 Philadelphia 53 56 .486 3.5 Houston 52 57 .477 4.5 San Francisco 52 57 .477 4.5 Milwaukee 52 58 .473 5.0 Florida 51 59 .464 6.0 Atlanta 50 59 .459 6.5 Well Arizona just fell to 55-55, so Cincinnati now has a 2 game lead on them and LA. Also, Cincinnati has a 4 game series at home coming up with St. Louis. They are only 2.5 games back, and the Cardinals pitch Jeff Weaver and Jason Marquis in the first 2 games at GABP, the best homer park in the game. St. Louis might show up on this list in the not too distant future.
