QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 04:40 PM)
What in here is ripping on the team.

see WS dvd.

"All of my friends always said that I'd have to get outta here if I ever wanted to win a ring, and I am glad that I decided to stay here to win a championship."

I lost all respect for him as a player the second I heard that.... on the WS dvd no less. Good riddance should be classified as an understatement coming from KW.

Frank's comments weren't childish?

Plus, it's my opinion...that's why I, yes I, choose not to root for him or give him that standing O.

I don't have to show you anything.

They were petulant. They were whiney. They were not even comparable to what KW said.

I love this defense. 'It's my opinion you think that way.' Well, I can say for a fact that that's a dumb opinion. I personally don't understand how anyone who's been a Sox fan for years can seriously consider not applauding him when he returns, but I have enough respect for you to not suggest that you're not a 'real fan'. I expect the same in return, especially on a board of ALL SOX FANS. You don't have to show anything, but it's a pretty funny argument if you don't. 'I really, really think so.'

Thomas closes book on verbal tussle

Following chat with Williams, slugger considers battle through

PHOENIX -- A's slugger Frank Thomas can't wait for the day that the questions he fields focus solely on his rehab and his new club.

Monday wasn't that day.

On Sunday, after reading some pointed comments made by Thomas regarding the way the end of his 16-year career with the White Sox was handled, Chicago general manager Ken Williams went on an extended tirade against Oakland's new designated hitter. On Monday morning at Papago Park, Thomas told reporters that he'd spoken with Williams on Sunday night and considered the matter closed.

Thomas, who characterized his talk with Williams as lengthy and heated, refused to directly respond to some of Williams' harsher comments, which included calling Thomas "an idiot" and "selfish."

"Idiot? Selfish?" Thomas said. "There's nothing there worth a response. ... It's childish. It's time to move on. It's all a bunch of noise to me. ... As far as love lost, there was not much love there, anyway."

Williams also said that White Sox players, coaches and staff won't miss Thomas' "attitude" or "whining," adding, "Good riddance. See ya. ... He's the Oakland A's problem now."

A's manager Ken Macha said that he thought the war of words between Thomas and Williams was "funny" and noted, "[Jay] Payton was a problem with the Red Sox last year." Traded to the A's at midseason after complaining about a lack of playing time in Boston last season, Payton was a model citizen with Oakland.

Added Macha, "[it] looks like we've got a rivalry going [with Chicago now]."

Thomas said that he'd prefer things not to escalate.

"We don't need these kinds of distractions, and we won't have these kinds of distractions," he said. "I'd prefer to keep things in-house. This is not high school. It's over.

"The bottom line is [that] I had a wonderful time in Chicago, and I don't see it neccessary to tear that down on the way out the door."

I wonder if the Sox deliberately asked MLB productions to include that in the video to reinforce the reasoning for getting rid of Thomas. Another classic example of Frank thinking he is saying something nice and honest but coming across as a self-centered jackass. Good riddance is right.

What I would like to know is how people can defend anything Frank has said over the past month and then just totally say KW was wrong in everything he said.

Frank let this continue by opening his mouth time and time again until there was a breaking point.

When asked time and time again about Frank at Soxfest, KW had nothing but nice things to say.

Now that KW basically buried him (put in an urn according to Wilbon) Frank wants to take the high road.

He didn't take the high road.

The high road would have been shutting his mouth upon leaving the team.

This is a completely logical and sensible approach to the whole thing.

I just gave you the reason why I will not give him a standing ovation. In summary, i support the sox before i support a player, doesn't matter who it is. If they take bitter sides like this, i side with the team, especially after Frank started this crap. To me, it's not both.

Now he said he should have asked to be traded after he took an ofer in the 2000 playoffs. I guess that means the WS ring means nothing to him.

I want to make it well known that I absolutely love Kenny as a GM. He did it. He helped bring a champion to Chicago. For that, I'll always be in debt to him. I hope he's our GM for the next 20 years. I just think he was wrong for the comments he made yesterday. Simple as that.

So now that he didn't respond, he's the good guy? Did we forget who started this? Both KW and Frank took shots. To say Frank is suddenly the good guy is ridiculous.

I can agree with that. Although I'm glad Frank didn't resort to taking personal shots back at Kenny. He could've easily done so.

Wait, he's taking the high road.

The high road was a month ago.

Shut up and play the game.

Everytime he talks my head hurts.

Well one way or another, i think all of us can agree that this should end so it doesn't somehow affect the white sox, no matter what we think of frank. So i'm glad he didn't respond this time, but that doesn't put a halo over his head.

Here's what Frank could have said:

Yea, Kenny is an idiot.

He built the team around pitching and defense rather than guys like myself, Maggs and Carlos Lee.

And what did it get him?  A ring.

"Jerry has done everything over the course of 16 years to protect that man, to make accommodations for him, concessions for him. He loaned him money, at times, when he needed money," Williams said.

What a jag.

What she said . . .

The funny thing is that I think most of us agree on this. Even aboz. I think all this bickering isn't so much about who's at fault as much as its about who's more at fault.

Kinda stupid if you ask me.

Who exactly are these people that have 'defended what Frank has said' (besides White Sox Josh, of course)? I've said multiple times that Frank shouldn't have said what he said. Same goes for Steff. Same goes for Greasy. Same goes for witesoxfan. Same goes for J4Life. Same goes for Jackie Hayes.

I haven't said Kenny is 100% correct in this. I mean he went off yesterday, but at some point you have to understand the man. I mean, there has to be a breaking point somewhere. Frank just manged to get him there over time.

Your opinion was about other peoples' opinions, and you can't back it up, and you show that you're clueless about how I'm thinking. So yes, if you tell me how I'm thinking about something, and you're completely wrong, that qualifies as a dumb opinion.

I support the Sox over any one player. But that doesn't mean I have to support any idiot statement about a former player, just because it comes from somebody currently in the Sox organization. If some scout gave a press report about Aaron Rowand strangling stray puppies, he'd better have something to back that up.

Oh, PLEASE don't even go the Jay Marrioti route of trying to invoke that it's been Frank's fault that the team hasn't won a Series in his time here.  Please don't do that...

What I think you fail to understand that I am just sitting here laughing while others are probably slamming their keyboards and in some cases maybe even headbutting their children because they are so angry.

How many times do I have to say that Frank is the greatest Sox player ever.

Just a damn shame he has to go out on such a sour note.
