Kid Gleason
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2006 -> 06:01 PM) http://upi.com/NewsTrack/view.php?StoryID=...17-045852-9586r Simon predicts his top three... Two of them I like, one of them I might not stop for in a crosswalk. I'm surprised by those three. Taylor I agree with. Chris...eh...one trick pony really, and he is no better than almost every other Nu Metal voice out there. I like the guy, but he is so far from "original" or even at the top of his style. Kelly? Sheesh. He's obviously figuring her "cuteness" will win her over. But she is getting annoying. I would say Taylor and Mandisa will be the last two standing. southsider2k5
Here is what the money is saying... After last week's Stevie Wonder tribute show on American Idol we saw the exit of Melissa McGhee and stellar performances by front runners Chris Daughtry and Katharine McPhee. The race between the two has tightened with Daughtry's odds changing from 5-2 to 2-1, and McPhee closing the gap, her odds improving from 4-1 to 7-2. Betting sentiment is following suit, Daughtry is taking 17.8 per cent of wagers and McPhee is nipping at his heels with 16.1 per cent. Former top pick Ace Young continues to fall from favor, his odds falling to 9-1 this week from 5-1 last week. Currently receiving 11 per cent of sportsbook.com wagers, Young will have to make some major changes if he wants to try to gain television viewer support and climb back up the ranks. "Simon Cowell seems to like Chris Daughtry, and staying faithful to his rocker style seems popular with viewers so it's no surprise that bettors are backing him too," said Alex Czajkowski, Marketing Director, Sportsbook.com. "However, two weeks ago it seemed as if nothing would rock Ace Young from his perch but he's losing public support to the surprise of the judges which proves that anything can happen." Mandisa, Taylor Hicks and Paris Bennett are holding their positions in the middle of the pack in the odds race, Mandisa and Hicks are both listed at 5-1 and Bennett is at 8-1. Strangely though, only 3.2 per cent of bettors are backing Mandisa, the 29 year old from Antioch, TN. For up to the minute odds please visit, Sportsbook.com, where everybody bets. southsider2k5
QUOTE(Soxy @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) Vote for the worst. I had forgotten about that site, but at the sametime, I think the 12 year old girl factor is working for Kevin more than anything else... I guess that means we are going to see this clown around for a while. *sigh* Damn I can't wait for baseball to start soon :banghead
Kid Gleason
That John Stevens has a new album out called "Red". Surprisingly enough, his time after the show seems to have done him decent, as it sounds pretty good. It's what you would expect, mellow standards, but his voice has improved. It doesn't sound full of studio trickery either, so I would just expect he has been working on it.
southsider2k5
The week of 11... My take on 50's week Top of the Heap. -Elliot- might have had the best week of anyone. He really took to heart Barry Manilow's advice and was excellent -Mandisa- was incredible. If she weighed 100 pounds less, this competition would be OVER. -Chris- had an excellent spin on his tune. I was really impressed with the way he took it and solid it as an alternative song Good-but not the best -Paris-Hard to leave her out of the top, but I don't think she challenged herself enough -Taylor-Same as Paris... really picked a simple song that didn't show himself off much, well singing-wise. -Katharine-Very good, but there were definately way better at the top Meh -Ace-I really didn't like the jazz version of Still of the Night, but he did all right. -Kellie-Totally missed what Manilow was telling her about the mood of the song. She seemed way to happy for a sad song. She showed her talent, but missed the big picture, surprise Kevin-One of his better weeks actually. He was another one who took Manilow's lessons to heart and used them to his advantage. Too bad his utter lack of talent caps his preformances. Lisa-Another one who wasn't very challenged, and for whatever reason, she just doesn't stand out for me. Terrible Bucky-I would actually say he deserves to go over Kevin if we are talking about just this week.
Soxy
V. good assessment, SS. Bucky was terrible, my roommate couldn't even figure out what he was singing. He was definitely the worst of the night. But both Lisa and Kevin bored me out of my mind. And Ace again reminded me what the Good Lord created the mute button. At first I didn't like Chris' performance ('cause I love me some Johnny Cash) but it grew on me, and I kind of wanted to hear it again after it was over. Mandisa is just amazing. retro1983hat
Someone please get Kevin off of my TV. He may be nice and all that, but outclassed at this point. True, if Mandisa was half her size, she would be the winner. Personally, I like Paris and Taylor. Uggh, I almost threw up when I saw that poser Constantine in the crowd. Kid Gleason
At first I liked Chris, but anymore I am tired of his "one trick pony" crap, and the simple fact that there are already a ton of his style voice out there in the world, and most of them better than he is. He has a good voice, but in the Nu Metal world, there are a ton better. Taylor, my favorite, was a flop last night. He was good, but the song was a bad choice, and I even LOVE that song, and Buddy Holly. Bucky was not that bad if you listen to him again. He suffered from a terrible arrangement of the song. The music was too weak behind him and his gravel voice. Where the piano was coming in, it needed to be a big distorted guitar. Vocally though he was fine. I get tired of the judges praising the singers for "bringing their own style to it". Every single song is arranged and worked out by the band and the vocal coaches, the singers have no part in any of it. Typical major label BS. Chris had no part in that version of "Walk The Line" other than being a monkey and doing what they were telling him to do. Simon praising him for "not compromising"? Bulls***. If he wasn't compromising there is no way he would have done all of these dang ballads. Even his Fuel crap was mellow radio friendly junk. Lets see him pull off soem true modern Metal, something from Superjoint, something from the recent Judas Priest, or get REALLY gutsy pull out something really unknown to this country. Plus, if you are picking songs that have been previously "O.K.'ed" by the friggin' producers and judges, how "uncompromising" can you really be? And what was that no talent ass clown Constantine doing there? Shouldn't somebody have run his ass over with a steamroller by now?

SouthSidePride05
The version of "I Walk the Line" that Chris sang last night was NOT his own. The band, Live, recorded the exact same version, which can be found on 2 cds, including Live's "Awake", Their Best Of Cd. I couldn't believe the judges were saying they were glad he made it his own. It was a complete karaoke version of Live's "I Walk the Line" including every single note. Edited March 22, 2006 by SouthSidePride05

Soxy
Glad to see Kevin go. But I am willing to endure Bucky for a few more weeks to get rid of Kellie. What's a ballsy? I think someone at AI mentioned to Pickler how 'successful' Jessica Simpson became with the dumb blonde routine and she's trying it as well. She IS pretty hot and that will carry her a ways. If she stays in her zone (country) she should be ok. It helped Carrie Underwood last year!

I don't think it's an act. Jessica you can tell had a few beers in her six pack, but this one... I don't even think she made it in the liquor store. There's enough stuff coming out about Kellie to let you realize how much of an act it all is. Her bit about never performing live is BS, as she placed second in a local version of American Idol and was even on TV already. Come on, how many people (over the age of 10) have never heard of friggin' salmon before? Bucky is not an act, Kellie though adopted Bucky's naive side and went wild with it. She saw it working for him. Isn't it funny how the one week we saw Bucky trying to adjust to the big city and it's crazy foods, and all of a sudden the very next week we have Kellie doing the same routine, but in an exaggerated form? southsider2k5
Is anyone else incredibly bored by this season? Yeah these people are talented, as a group probably more so than any other year, but it seems like the same episode over and over again. Chris sings the same type of rock song Kellie saids something stupid and sings a twangy country song Mandisa sings a big sounding soul/gospel song Ace sings something that ends with him making that stupid face to the audience Paris sings something showtuneish with tons of range Taylor sings a jazzy tune Bucky sings a crappy country song To be honest the only chances I ever see taken are by Katharine, Elliot (more than anyone) and Lisa (who is gone this week anyway. I miss the years past when their "theme" weeks meant that someone was going to be unconfortable. Now their themes are all so broad that no one ever has to take any risk. You could watch the first week or the fifth and it would be the exact samething. I can't believe I am saying this but give me a country week or a broadway showtunes week... something, anything to make people do something different.
