southsider2k5
Thanks for the compliments. The picture was a fun coincidence that she happened to pose like that while Idol was on... at least I think it was a conincidence. I also took a bunch of pics for opening day with her and dad in their matching black outfits that came out awesome.
Kid Gleason
I thought Ace sucked. Chris was good. I hate the song Kellie did to begin with, though my wife loves it. Yuck. Paris cheated by doing what is essentially a Pop song. It was slightly Country when Faith Hill did it, and it was total Pop when Lee Ann Rimes did it. Taylor atleast did an older song. Everybody else just went to Country Top 100 from the past 5 friggin' years. I liked how Kenny Rogers was being honest, and more times than not was basically saying "so and so sucks". I agreed with Simon, I also don't like Country, atleast not Country Pop. Though I did kind of like the song Bucky did, just not his singing. southsider2k5
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) You scare me Mike. Nice prediction with the final result. Its the samething every year.... in the middle rounds there is always one of the "favorites" who gets booted and Ryan makes this pitiful guilt trip about voting for your favorite contestant. Then they seem to get rid of the dead weight pretty quickly. This show has gotten so predictable.
Rex Hudler
Good call on the Mandisa prediction. I would not have guessed it, though it certainly didn't surprise me. Aside from Bucky, who continues to skate by, I think the rest of them are pretty even. Any could go in any given week with a bad performance. I really don't see much of a separation (when combining talent and following) between: Taylor, Chris, Elliott, Kellie, Paris, Katharine and Ace. I'd rank Ace toward the bottom based on talent. I might rank Elliott toward the bottom based on a lack of ability to perform. He can sing, but he's boring. Paris can be really good or just decent. Katharine is very good, but I am not convinced she has a huge following. I think country actually helped Chris this week, but I am not convinced he can go all the way with his style. Taylor seems to be loved and can perform well and sing well, but I don't think he is the best at either. Kellie is decent, looks good and is from NC (which seems to be some kind of secret to lasting) but she is irritating and not great. I'm still waiting on someone to really stand out, week in, week out. Haven't seen it so far.
Rex Hudler
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) Disco would be another great theme to throw a lot of people off their game. Hopefully they follow up country week with something on the other end of the spectrum so that Bucky and Kellie get knocked on their asses too. How about Queen? That far enough on the other end of the spectrum? That should shake things up a bit. I have no idea how this will work out, but it certainly could be interesting. It is going to put pretty much everyone on notice because no one has anything like that kind of a voice. Song choice should be interesting because there is a big variety of styles, but in the big picture, Freddy Mercury never really wrote a "safe" song. Plus I love the music of Queen, so it should be a fun week.

Kid Gleason
I love the music of Queen, and they are one of the HUGE reasons I started playing seriously way back in '77. It's also the reason I am torn on if I will watch the show or not. I am not so sure I can watch these people butcher the songs, as pretty much all of them will do. I have a feeling Chris will do "Stone Cold Crazy" because he knows Metallica's version. Bucky will probably shoot for "Tie Your Mother Down", "Fat Bottomed Girls" or something of the sort. I expect Ace will go for "Bohemian" so he can use his eyebrows to their fullest extent. Mercury did do a ton of fancy vocal stuff, but there is also plenty in the catalogue to do. Remember, Brian sang quite a bit of stuff also, and Roger Taylor's voice would actually suit somebody like Bucky quite well, so Bucky could even do "I'm In Love With My Car" or "Fight From The Inside" and get away with it. Let's just see one of these hacks attempt "Mustapha".

I do not watch AI, but I might tune in for a few minutes here and there just to see what songs they select. I fear for any of them that think they can take on a "Freddy" song. I have yet to really like any of the Queen remakes I have heard.

southsider2k5
I understand exactly what you are all saying about remakes, I am the exact sameway about any Beatles remake. I have heard two that I have ever liked, and the Beatles might be the most covered band in history.
Kid Gleason
Actually, Paul Galaxy does a Rockabilly version of "Fat Bottom Girls" that is friggin' amazing. But I'm a Rockabilly fanatic, so that helps it. But his guitar playing on it is amazing. http://www.paulgalaxy.com/ Edited April 7, 2006 by Kid Gleason
Soxy
My favorite idol re-capper. Decent read and recap of the week's show. To be honest, the last couple of weeks I've been looking forward to this guy's reviews more than the actual show.

Queen Prawn
One I think that is a certainty is "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." "Killer Queen", "You're my best friend" and "A Kind of Magic" are definite maybes. Some one is bound to try to sing (and butcher undoubtedly) "Bohemian Rhapsody". I'd like someone to try "Dreamer's Ball," "Save Me" or "Spread Your Wings."

And thank God for that. I love Queen dearly, but even to this day I am tired of people covering that damn song. I love the Queen version...but come on. Oh, I just realized, I have no choice but to miss tomorrow night. I'll record it just in case I hear something decent on the recap show though. southsider2k5
I am just going to steal QPs post, and add my comments. •Ace Young, We Will Rock YouTerrible! No emotion at all for a rock ANTHEM. You don't sing this song, you practically scream it. Too cutesy for the song. •Bucky Covington, Fat Bottomed Girls: Another of a few who don't get you don't sing the lyrics for Queen. I noticed many times that I thought back to the way Freddy Mercury could put emphasis on many words in a lyric, instead of just singing the whole lyric in one tone. This may be the end for Bucky. •Chris Daughtry, Innuendo zzzzz boring. Same sounding song, again. Also very safe, no range, no originality. I wonder who he ripped it off from? •Elliott Yamin, Somebody to Love Again, not in the league of the song. He was within too small of a range, for a song with a HUGE range. Again, very boring. •Katharine McPhee, Who Wants to Live ForeverStood out like a sore thumb wearing red. The preformance was very forgettable. •Kellie Pickler, Bohemian Rhapsody2nd best preformance of the week. Great range, good show. I just wish someone would shut her up... please? •Paris Bennett, The Show Must Go On A surprisingly good week for Paris. She did get the idea that every word of a Queen song has meaning. Plus a great stage presence to give the song the right feeling. •Taylor Hicks, Crazy Little Thing Called Love Preformance of the week. Really got the vocal range going, the showmanship going, and really understood that each word of the lyrics meant something, instead of just singing the lyrics Predicted Bottom 3-Bucky, Elliot, and Katharine... Bucky goes home. For my money, the bottom should be Elliot, Ace, and Katharine with Ace going home.
