aboz56
I thought Taylor was horrible. That dancing should be outlawed everywhere. I thought Pickler, Elliott and Katharine were the best 3 performances.
Queen Prawn
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) I am just going to steal QPs post, and add my comments. •Ace Young, We Will Rock YouTerrible! No emotion at all for a rock ANTHEM. You don't sing this song, you practically scream it. Too cutesy for the song. •Bucky Covington, Fat Bottomed Girls: Another of a few who don't get you don't sing the lyrics for Queen. I noticed many times that I thought back to the way Freddy Mercury could put emphasis on many words in a lyric, instead of just singing the whole lyric in one tone. This may be the end for Bucky. •Chris Daughtry, Innuendo zzzzz boring. Same sounding song, again. Also very safe, no range, no originality. I wonder who he ripped it off from? •Elliott Yamin, Somebody to Love Again, not in the league of the song. He was within too small of a range, for a song with a HUGE range. Again, very boring. •Katharine McPhee, Who Wants to Live ForeverStood out like a sore thumb wearing red. The preformance was very forgettable. •Kellie Pickler, Bohemian Rhapsody2nd best preformance of the week. Great range, good show. I just wish someone would shut her up... please? •Paris Bennett, The Show Must Go On A surprisingly good week for Paris. She did get the idea that every word of a Queen song has meaning. Plus a great stage presence to give the song the right feeling. •Taylor Hicks, Crazy Little Thing Called Love Preformance of the week. Really got the vocal range going, the showmanship going, and really understood that each word of the lyrics meant something, instead of just singing the lyrics Predicted Bottom 3-Bucky, Elliot, and Katharine... Bucky goes home. For my money, the bottom should be Elliot, Ace, and Katharine with Ace going home. Exactly what I said to my mom when we discussed the performances. I think Chris Metallica'd it too much. I really thought Katharing blew it big. Reading too many posts around the net that say the song is boring. Anyone that knows that song and heard Freddie's/Brian's version of it knows otherwise. Off to watch Deadliest Catch.
Kid Gleason
So should I watch my tape or decide after seeing the results show? Can I get a "nice guess" on the Bucky doing "Fat Bottom"??? Please? I am surprised to see Chris went with "Innuendo"...kind of. I think only because I would naturally assume people to forget about the ending period of Queen. Interesting to think that quite possibly even in the grip of AIDS, and dying a painful death, Mr. Mercury probably still out-sang these people. Did Simon make any comments about Freddie? In the past he has kind of scolded people for attempting Queen material, telling them Freddie was one of the greatest ever and that you really had to be on the top of your game. How about Brian and Roger, how were their "interview" bits? Are they performing tomorrow night with Paul?
Queen Prawn
The only one that didn't seem to tick off Brian was that Paris girl. I seriously thought he was going to start ripping about the whole thing after the bit with Ace. He was ticked about something and really did not seem to be thrilled with Ace or his singing. Roger just seemed somewhat shocked at how...I don't know...lacking some of the singers were. Simon didn't seem to care for any of their attempts at Queen at all. Can't blame him. I am going to do everything I can to get home tomorrow in case Brian and Roger are performing. Considering everything around "Show Must Go On" (last video footage of Freddie was the making of this video and other obvious things), I was nervous about it being performed, but she was the only one that didn't seem to irritate Brian. Brian has never struck me as someone that irritates easy, but he really seemed irritated in those bits tonight (too much touring with Paul lol?). Queen Prawn
Oh and what was with the black stiletto boots the chicks were wearing?! When I saw them all I could think of was the video to "I Want To Break Free" haha.
Kid Gleason
Wow, what idiots the judges are. Ummmm, the reason Queen never did "Innuendo" live had something to do with maybe Freddie being deathly ill when they recorded it, and never toured for that reason. Ummm, "Innuendo" came out in 1991, Freddie died in 1991. Idiots. It had nothing to do with them not feeling able to do it. THE GREATEST VOICE IN THE WORLD AT THE TIME WAS FRIGGIN' DYING!!! Paula, you suck.
Kid Gleason
Watched it. My wife wanted to see it. Ace needs to go. Seriously. When Warrant does a better job of "We Will Rock You", it's time to go home and hide. Bucky actually did O.K. Paula and everybody praising him for finding his voice in it. Idiots, it's basically a country backed song. Duh, what other choice was there for the guy? Chris...ugh. Simon is wrong, it's a great song, but a crappy performance. Taylor...eh...O.K....you can do "Crazy Little Thing"...so can 50,000,000 other people, and exactly like that. Elliot. I just don't see the stroke off for the guy. He can sing, but why is everybody convinced he is so good? Am I the only one who thinks he does not have an amazing voice? Paris. I agree with my wife, if I didn't have to look at her or ever hear her talk I would like her more. Decent version. Katharine. Good voice, ugly clothes. Could have been better, could have been much worse. Kellie. Started good, but once the painful kick in started (talk about a shock to the ears), her voice went to crap and was flat more times that not. In the end, it was what I expected. Freddie had such a power on those songs that I could not get his voice out of my head. I kept hearing it, and it caused everybody to sound like s*** to me. Anybody else still get teary eyed and choak up when they see footage of Freddie? I still to this day can't believe he is gone. Only a couple other people do that to me. Rex Hudler
I thought the contestants this week didn't understand or just weren't able to provide the punch or edge that Queen had. I am not sure if I am using the right words, but they weren't crisp. I actually enjoyed Kellie's "Bohemian" better the 2nd time I watched it, but she lost it at the end. I thought the initial transition to the uptempo portion of the song was better than I original thought, but she really missed it transitioning back to the end. The power in that song is how well Freddie changed from one tempo to the other, and back, while keeping the vocals powerful all the way through. I thought Taylor was good, but not great. I think he loses some of his vocal ability as he is running around the stage. I thought he was much better in the parts of the song where he was more stationary or at least moving slowly. I was disappointed that he changed from We Are the Champions. I think he could have done that song well. I thought Simon was spot on about Chris. His performance seemed solid, but it wasn't a well known song. I think with the right song choice, he had a chance to blow people away this week, but instead he chose a song most of the audience had never heard, or at least had very little familiarity with. His performance was pretty forgettable for that reason. I liked Katharine this week, but again, it wasn't the most familiar song. It is easier for me to enjoy an unfamiliar song that is slower in tempo. Maybe that's just me. Bucky was okay at best. If only you could understand one word the guy sings... I thought his performance was pretty ordinary and I really hope he is gone after this week. Ace wasn't as bad watching it the 2nd time as the first, but that's not saying much. I thought he started off pretty well, then just completely lost it. It wasn't good at all. He told Ryan "I thought I rocked it". I had to laugh. I think Elliott has a nice, soothing voice. I do think the guy has talent, but his performances bore me. I just don't think he has any star quality (second lowest to Bucky). He'll probably hang around a little longer, but I can't see him winning this thing. I liked Paris tonight. She certainly didn't come across as a 17-yr old tonight. I will admit that I am pretty much only familiar with Queen's most notable titles, so some of the songs I wasn't too familiar with. I thought she had one of the best 2-3 performances tonight. I think the bottom three should be Ace, Bucky and Elliott. I think Ace and Bucky are locks (unless AI starts playing games again) and my guess is that either Katharine, Chris or Paris could be there instead of Elliott. Soxy
I agree with pretty much everything people have been saying. Although between Pickler (what's on paper?) and Paris' outfits I was kind of wondering if it was dominatrix night. And was it just me or did Pickler look a little Stevie Nixed out? Hearing the pretty awful covers really made me appreciate the real Queen a lot more. I think the best performance of the night was Taylor and the worst was probably Ace. Most of them were dull. Bottom 3: Ace, Bucky and Chris (I think his one trick pony of nu-metal, which I am soooo over is wearing thin). I think Ace will go home. kapkomet
Is it me, or do the people this year just suck compared to last year? I don't like any of them. And I'm not really watching this year beause of it.

retro1983hat
I think this year's group is more entertaining than previous years, but not as good a singers. Ace - His good looks will not get him much farther. Bucky - Please get him off the show. He shouldn't have even made the final 12. Pickler - The singing was bad, but I was so entertained and laughing the whole time. She might be a surprise and end up in the finals. Katherine - She is as solid as anyone this year which will probably land her in the final 4. Chris - I like him but the Queen song choice was weird. Here's a rocker that could've shined last night with a popular song and he chose some odd song I never heard of. Taylor - He is the wild card. Half the country probably loves him and the other half hates him. I like him. Elliot - Get some personality and get more camera-friendly dude. Maybe he can't help it. He can sing, but he is not a star. Paris - She was my pick to go all the way early, but her youth is starting to show. She is the most complete package of the entire group though. My predictions: Going home tonight - Ace 7 - Elliot 6 - Bucky 5 - Paris 4 - Katherine 3 - Chris 2 - Pickler 1 - Taylor
southsider2k5
I just remembered the line of the night for me. Kid Gleason
Yeah, but it's a bit of a pissed. Bucky actually grew on me over time. He seems pretty damned honest, and I feel sorry for him for having his "dumb hick" thing stolen by Kellie. But Bucky seems like a decent guy, and I kind of like his voice. Plus, out of all the guys, I think he might end up being the best one to watch live. Chris will be a "strike a tough guy pose" (and he always looks dumb at the end of songs). But Bucky just gets into a cool vibe and moves pretty damn good at times. Next week would have been almost as painful from me if they went from all of Rod's past, but since they are just doing the abysmal "Song book" crap, I will be able to tolerate it. But if they dipped into his GOOD period (Beck Group, Faces, first 5 Mercury albums), then I would probably throw myself off a building. Expect Taylor and Elliot to own the show next week. juddling
I don't remember hearing about this before but since Bucky got the boot tonight.....here's some news for the heck of it. Report: 'Idol' Finalist Bucky Covington Duped Police To Help Twin 'American Idol' hopeful deceived state trooper to spare brother a possible prison stint. "American Idol" finalist Bucky Covington Back in 1998, in what sounds like a scene lifted straight from "The Parent Trap," "American Idol" finalist Bucky Covington deceived a North Carolina state trooper to spare his twin brother, Rocky, a possible prison stint. According to CourtTV.com, the identical Covington boys pulled it off, too — but not without first being arrested on charges of hit and run, resisting a public officer, giving fictitious information to a public officer, driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident. CourtTV.com reports that on February 25, 1998, Gene Covington, Bucky's father, was sitting on his motorcycle, waiting to make a left turn into his driveway, which is situated near the crest of a hill in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Behind him, sitting at the wheel of Bucky's truck, was Rocky, waiting to make that same turn. While the Covingtons waited for a break in oncoming traffic, high school student Ryan Roller was driving up the hill toward them in his father's truck; he did not notice the vehicles were stopped in the lane on the other side of the hill until it was too late. Roller slammed on his brakes and skidded into the back of Bucky's pickup. No one was injured, but the accident resulted in more than $4,000 in damages to the vehicles. Rocky (who was 20 at the time of the incident) had previously had his license suspended for speeding, drinking while driving and driving with a revoked license. With police en route, the elder Covington, in an effort to spare Rocky a stint in jail, summoned Bucky, who had an almost spotless driving record, to the accident scene. When police arrived, Bucky claimed that he'd been the one driving the truck at the time of the collision in order to keep Rocky out of trouble. Roller was urged to cooperate and did — for the time being. According to CourtTV.com, Roller later confessed the whole plot to his father, who then contacted Bucky's father. When the two dads couldn't come to an agreement on who'd be paying for repairs to the damaged trucks, Roller's father called the police. Not long after, a Richmond County District Court judge issued a warrant for Bucky's arrest — he was charged with resisting an officer and giving fictitious information to a public officer. Rocky was also booked on driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident and hit-and-run charges. Last July, the Covington twins were tried in court, but the case tripped up when Roller was asked to point out the brother who'd been driving the truck he rear-ended. "I picked out the wrong one," he told CourtTV.com. "That was bad." The judge subsequently dismissed all charges. "We couldn't say which one did what," explained Lewis Fadely, the prosecutor who handled the case. "In a criminal trial, you have to be able to say, 'The defendant did this, this and this.' We couldn't. They looked so gosh darn the same."

Rex Hudler
Good night overall tonight. The group as a whole was much better than in previous weeks. I thought Paris and Katharine were the best, with Taylor, Chris, and Elliott not far behind. Ace wasn't bad, but I think he is still very vulnerable this week. Kellie wasn't so hot and surprisingly admitted as much. Anyone that thinks she isn't dumb was proven wrong tonight. She flat out admitted she sucked before the judges spoke. Any intelligence at all would have stopped her from doing that. Edited April 19, 2006 by Rex Hudler
juddling
i've never been a fan of Daughtry but i admit he impressed me tonight. i don't think Kellie said anything that we all weren't singing. she might have gotten by with that performance in other weeks but it seemed like everyone was on tonight except for her. i doubt people will vote it that way but they should and Kellie should start thinking about what to tell Hugh Hefner when his offer comes in. southsider2k5
I missed the first two preformances last night... But just going by what my wife said, and the short replay snippets... I think this was a quality week of preformances, I don't think anyone merited too much ripping. Kellie and Ace were definately the bottom of the barrel, Kellie was harder on herself than I thought she should have been. Katharine and Chris seemed to stand out. Chris finally took a risk and it paid off FWIU, and Kat was just incredible. Taylor, Paris, and Elliot had good weeks. Elliot is so comfortable in that genre, but I think Simon was right, his preformance lacked the personality to put it over the top. If you could somehow combine Taylors stage presence with Elliots talent, you would have the runaway winner of season 5. To be honest even with only 7 people left, no one really stands out to me as the eventual winner. Bottom 3 I think will be Kellie, Ace, and Elliot with Ace biting the dust. I said it before about Kellie...I don't think it's an act with her...I just think she really is that dimwitted. But there is definitely that charm about her that makes you feel for her. It worked for Jessica Simpson when she was playing dumb and it's gonna work for Kellie cause she IS dumb. She was hard on herself yesterday. Most performers on that show would never criticize themselves and I think that will resonate with the voters. My prediction...Kellie stays...I don't even think she'll be in the bottom 3. Ace, Elliot and my upset pick...Taylor in the bottom 3 with Elliot unfortunately going home over Ace.
