TheBigHurt
What the hell is going on lately with veterans being signed to minor league deals (Marquis Grissom, and I believe there's another...)?
SSH2005
Can we seriously stop with the Don Cooper = God stuff? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Never. Cooper could bring back Jim Parque and turn him into a stud.

Balta1701
QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) I am gona go on record right now saying Nomo will be a great surprise to the White Sox bullpen this year. TheBigHurt
Yeah, I guess I didn't mention from what I SAW (which was very little), Nomo wasn't that good. I don't know about Marquis, though.

beck72
This has little to no risk involved. But it could have a decent upside. At worst Nomo can eat some innings in AAA.

This happens every year. How do you think the Sox acquired Loaiza? They signed his old bad ass to minor league deal and invited him to spring training. They signed his old bad ass to minor league deal and invited him to spring training. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And then he learned a sick cutter and made himself a pitching god for one season. SSH2005
From Scott Reifert's blog: Nomo The White Sox are close to signing Japanese pitcher Hideki Nomo to a Triple-A contract. If he does sign with the Sox, Nomo would be in minor-league camp, which begins on March 4. http://suntimes.com/output/sox/sox01.html Notes: White Sox officials are talking to the agent for RHP Hideo Nomo about a minor league contract. Nomo started 19 games for Tampa Bay last season, going 5-8 with a 7.24 ERA. He broke in with the Dodgers in 1995. He has a 123-109 career record. DBAHO
Well there's no conspiracy theory on the Sox suddenly wanting to deal Freddy Garcia or Jose Contreras since they are gonna sign Nomo at least. But yes Charlotte needs arms, albeit Nomo's has absolutely nothing left. I thought he retired and went back to Japan at the end of the 2004 season though? Remember, Dye hit a grand slam off of him? The Devil Rays cut him loose and the Yankees picked him up but he stayed in the minors with them. With the AAA Columbus Clippers, Nomo went 2-3 with a 3.62 ERA. Edited March 2, 2006 by SSH2005

TLAK
Rotoworld sarcasm: Hideo Nomo - S - Yankees White Sox officials are talking to the agent for free agent Hideo Nomo about a minor league contract. We're not sure whether that means they want to sign Nomo or his agent. They'd have similar chances of making the club.
