ZoomSlowik
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 2, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) Zoom, I've noticed you like NC State alot this year. I'm just wondering why. They are the 4th best team in a weak ACC this year. Their leading scorer Cameron Bennerman is averaging only 13.5 ppg, while their defense is the 4th worst in the ACC. Cedric Simmons is very talented in the paint, but he doesn't rebound or score as much as he should, with 12 ppg and only 6.5 rpg, he dissapears too often. UNC has beaten them twice this year by an average margin of 18.5 ppg. Reason 1- There's always at least one team that people don't expect to do well but ends up going pretty far. I didn't feel like putting all chalk in this thread. Reason 2- They seem to be the type of team that often does well in the tournament. They go a legit 7 deep, have 5 guys averaging in double figures, and they are a good outside shooting team. Reason 3- I personally think that considering that he plays less than 30 minutes a game and has taken the 5th most shots on the team Simmons' numbers are impressive. By the way, this is the first time I mentioned them. I just was looking for any kind of team that stands out, and that's what I came up with. I realize that they have issues, but so does everyone else. I also wouldn't say that they're the 4th best team, I'd say they're about even with BC, and UNC hasn't done much better other than head to head. They were also a couple of questionable calls away from beating Duke in Cameron indoor and lost in OT to BC.
Palehosefan
ACC- Duke, BC, NC State I saw that one from the contendors thread at the bottom of this board right now, thats what interested me as well. Thanks for your thoughts though.

Thanks for your thoughts though. Well, the posts were a couple of minutes apart IIRC. I know, you're mad that I didn't include UNC. I'm just not all that impressed with their roster and what they've done. Outside of owning NC State, I just don't see much to get excited about. Give them another year or two and they'll be kicking ass again. I just don't see a team with Wes Miller as a fairly major major contributor having a real shot at the Final Four. Palehosefan
I know, you're mad that I didn't include UNC. That's honestly not why I said it. I'm glad nobody is picking UNC, and I don't blame them. I just don't like NC State's chances at all, or anyone's outside of Duke in the ACC to be honest. As for Wes Miller, you would be suprised. He doesn't fit the stereotype of a small white walk-on. He's an amazing shooter, but his best attribute is his man defense, its as good as anyone in the ACC, he's amazing. It has been totally un-expected, he was supposed to be a practice player, but he's proven to be so much more.
ZoomSlowik
We'll see. I haven't seen the brackets yet, but I get a feeling the NC State is going to be the team I like the most of the 4-5 seeds. At least one of them seems to make the Final Four every year, and they seem to have all the major components outside of defense, which doesn't always seem to be necessary in the tourney. Edit- Maybe not on the 4-5 seed thing. I still like Georgetown, and Kansas looks decent, and so does Florida. It's all going to depend on the brackets. Heads22
Iowa will be tough if they don't get upset in the first round. I could very easily see them getting 12-5'd. I can also see them being an elite 8 team. I apparently also jogged everyone's memories that OSU is pretty good. LOL.

They're going to have to beat a #1 or a #2 seed to make it to the Elite 8. I don't see that happening. Their offensive production is just so inconsistent, I have a hard time believing that they'll beat someone good.

Both are two of the best defensive teams in the country. Illini are a little more athletic and more fast break oriented. While Iowa tends to run slower paced offensive sets. Iowa has a better scorer down low though in Brunner but at the same time Illini have a few more offensive weapons. Very very similar teams though. They are similar except Iowa has more consistent players (aka veterans) but Illinois is WAY WAY WAY more athletic. Overall, I see them both as similar tourney threats. Both could lose in the first round, and both could get a favorable bracket and make (as well as wreak havoc) in the 2nd weekend of the dance. SIU would beat Gonzaga by the way, Morrison would seriously be on the bench crying after getting beat up by the Salukis d.
MarlinFan84
Falker or Shaw...either one...vs Morrison would be a treat. It depends on the bracket, if Memphis gets a #1 seed and SIU is the #8 or 9 seed in their bracket, I like the egyptian dawgs chances. It took a once in a lifetime surge AND questionable officiationg for OSU to come back against them last year.

Jordan4life_2007
I just finished my first bracket. I've got Uconn, Memphis, Texas and Boston College in the final 4. I know some will think I'm nuts for having BC as one of my picks. I was just so impressed with their play in the ACC tourney. Their bigs are flat awesome, their guards are solid, and they cause a lot of problems for teams defensively.
