Jordan4life_2007
Looks like Freddy pitched well despite giving up a couple runs in the third. Cotts pitched a scoreless inning. Fields and Sweeney had good games. That's about it for this game.
SSH2005
Farmer and Singleton are talking about whether or not Bajenaru's horrible outing will hurt his chances at a roster spot. They are just hoping it doesn't hurt his confidence.

He needs to have about 2 or 3 good performances in a row to get people to forget about this one.

Farmer and Singleton described all 4 hits he gave up as "rockets." The balk with a runner at 3rd base doesn't help either.

Baj hasn't shown the ability to get MLB hitters out. I hope he improves the rest of Spring Training. I don't want him making the MLB roster unless he proves he can get these hitters out. I think they said he walked one but gave up no runs. Jenks said he felt good in a recording. Edited March 2, 2006 by SSH2005
longshot7
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 2, 2006 -> 02:53 PM) Bases loaded for Casey Rogowski with 2 outs and he K's. Game ova. 9-2 Diamondbacks. In the other split squad game against the Rockies, Tim Redding gave up a 5-spot in the 5th inning. Nice. Sox lose that game 8-1. How did Vazquez do? He's a terrible pitcher, as his stuff and location is mediocre. Jim Parque has a better chance of getting guys out now than Redding does.

So far, Arnie Munoz, Javier Lopez, and Rusty Tucker looked good among the lefties. The realistic righty options are pretty much just Redding, Bajenaru, and Sean Tracey so hopefully they will pitch better. Otherwise, maybe KW will swing a trade. Certainly not the start he needed in ST. But at least his main competition hardly put their names forward today either. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Rotoworld's take... Jeff Bajenaru was tagged for four runs by the Diamondbacks in the ninth inning today. With Luis Vizcaino and Damaso Marte gone, the opportunity is there for Bajenaru to claim a bullpen spot this spring. However, he probably won't be able to afford another outing like this. Bajenaru, who turns 28 this month, had a 1.41 ERA in 61 relief appearances for Triple-A Charlotte last season. Flash Tizzle
What an absolutely pitiful performance from our bullpen hopefuls. I believed before ST began we were going to witness a battle of mediocrity for the last remaining bullpen spot, and judging from today, it looks to be true. And yes, I realize you can't draw conclusions off a small sample size, etc. etc. etc. But realize these pitchers weren't even facing major league talent. It was major league talent mixed among minor leaguers and ST invitees. Atleast we can scratch Almanza, Bajenaru, Tracy, Malone from the lone spot. I do think that Malone and Reynoso have no chance at the second lefty spot though. They don't seem to have any control at all.
