KipWellsFan
Mr Howard said he did not want Australia to adopt the American stance on guns. "I did not want Australia to go down the American path," he said. "There are some things about America I admire and there are some things I don't. "And one of the things I don't admire about America is their ... slavish love of guns. They're evil." full story http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,18311205-29277,00.html
NorthSideSox72
QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Mar 2, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) full story http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,18311205-29277,00.html Australia can have that perspective because they didn't need to fight a long, bloody war to gain independence and keep the government in check. We didn't have that luxury. That "evil" was a cornerstone of the creation of this country, and an important device in creating a government that was not oppresive. vandy125
QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Mar 2, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) full story http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,18311205-29277,00.html This does not surprise me at all. When I went to study overseas, everyone seemed shocked that I, an American, did not have several guns at my home (I do not even have 1). They all seem to think that we just all walk around with guns in our belts looking for someone to shoot at. Seemed kind of weird, but I think that they see Americans using guns so often in TV and movies that they expect it of us.
