vegasking
Hi all We are from the UK and last year my wife and I took in a sox game(they beat detroit 2-0, konerko homer) and that was me hooked i stayed up through the night to watch the world series. Anyway this year we are returning to take in the July 4th game against Baltimore(I have purchased tickets). My questions are will there be a good atmosphere for a july 4th game, will there be any extra entertainment and will the park be full. Thanks Edited March 6, 2006 by vegasking

The Critic
It will be a packed house. You'll have a good time, no doubt!

Not this year unless they change the time. Plan on heading over anywhere near Navy Pier. They have an awesome display every year, and the Taste of Chicago is also going on at the same time. southsider2k5
I would bet on the game being sold out, maybe quickly by the way tickets are selling this year.
SouthSidePride05
July 4th games have always sold out in the past, so it's almost guaranteed to sell out this year. It's a 3:05 start so it'll still be light outside after the game. EDIT: July 3rd is the big fireworks display downtown along the lake. always millions and millions of people crowded along the lake from Navy Pier to Grant Park to the walkway around Shed Aquarium. southsider2k5
Uh guys, Chicagos big fireworks display is July 3rd. They might have something at Navy Pier that night, but the huge display is July 3rd for the Taste of Chicago.
Pants Rowland
Just looked at the White Sox schedule. The Sox are also doing their independence day fireworks on the 3rd. That game is also against the Baltimore Orioles and starts at 6:05 P.M. The July 4th game says nothing about fireworks so you will just have to hope for a WS home run. I have been to Sox games on the 4th in the past and find it to be a great time even without the fireworks. Have fun at the game and bring us a victory. sayitaintso
I don't get why any city does fireworks on july 3 instead of a day later. does anybody know why they do that?

Iguess Chicago is rammed full at this time particularly with July 4th as well Taste is OK for a touristy thing. You get small portions for not-small money. It's a decent way to get a "taste" of a bunch of different Chicago restaurants. The bands are free, and there's a decent variety of musical styles. Not much aggressive music, though, for obvious reasons.....(indigestion ).... And yes, you will see ( and smell )a HUGE cross-section of Chicago people at the Taste. Have Fun!!!! Iguess Chicago is rammed full at this time particularly with July 4th as well There will literally be one million people in an eight square block area downtown on the 3rd for the Taste and the ensuing fireworks show. Its cool and all, but I have way too much hate for that big of crowds. I'll never do it again, but that's just me.
SouthSidePride05
I have family visiting me the week of July 3rd and we're trying to decide which game to attend. Just checking for tix online, it looks like the lower level is already sold out for that entire week. We were thinking of the July 4th game, but noticed it's Kid's Day (kids get in for $1 at the gate). My question is, for those that have gone to previous kid's days, is it packed w/ kids, and does that take away from the great atmosphere you'd see in other sold out games?? Would July 3rd be better, half-price night? Thanks..

The kids bring their own brand of excitement to the park, but it's aimed more at the on-screen games and quizzes, the Pride Crew and any fireworks (intro, homers, etc.) Friday nights seem to be the most "adult" of the game nights, as I recall.
