JUGGERNAUT
I know our lineup is sucking grapefruit, but there are some very strong strengths starting to show on this team that could pickup this season yet. 1-Mark Beurhle : do you really think he's not going to pick up his game 2-Bartolo Colon: A CG machine 3-Estaban Loaiza: proving that this year he's more than a 1 month pitcher 4-Jon Garland: 3 quality starts in a row 5-Danny Wright: Struggling but has looked good at times 6-Billy Koch: looking very good of late 7-Glover: a quality BP guy 8-Marte: The Koch & Marte combo is looking very good 9-Gordon: Better than the rest 10-Wunsch: adequate You combine those 10 with a little offense & that could spell a long winning string ahead. Remember June has always been Koney's all-star month.

Mr. Showtime
Their 7.5 back of a team that they cannot beat in head-to-head games. Sorry, but this thing is long over.

Remember June has always been Koney's all-star month. I hate to be rude, but did you just open your eyes? The pitching staff, as a whole, has pitched better then we ever could have expected. If the pitching staff wasn't what it has been, we might not have 20 wins yet, let alone be in third place. We need the bats to wake up and do more then just have one outburst per week. We need them to score 5 runs a game....they score 5 runs a game, we win a lot more games then we have been.
greg775
It is over because of the Twins. They are better than we are again. Early in the year they were sucking and we, the Royals, et. all did not take advantage. The Twins got it together and are going to have a fine year. We, meanwhile, can't win a series against anybody. I agree with the last poster. Minn will win going away.
JUGGERNAUT
Let's not overlook the fact that Garland did this against a KILLER lineup that had a team batting avg near 300! Beurhle has struggled nearly as bad as Garland in April & most of May, but both of them have looked much better of late. Especially JG. The Twinkies just dominate the A's. The SOX are now 7.5 back. Not insurmountable by any means.

However when the team you are chasing, is a team you cannot beat, you're in trouble.
cwsox
The SOX are now 7.5 back. Not insurmountable by any means. Of course it is not insurmountable. While I am not making hotel reservations for the world series yet, it is really odd that anyone says the season is over - it is still May - lots of time to make up ground - baseball history is filled with such - I think we have some real problems too but it can be done, that is why we play the games in real life for a whole season all of the giving up on the team for the whole year sure makes a lot of the criticisms of the 97 white flag trade look a bit, ah two-faced - all the bashing of JR for that, and yet so many people are white flagging in May - at least in 97, JR waited until the last minute of the last day of July

Not insurmountable by any means. As a hypothetical situation.... In June and the first two days of July, the White Sox play 30 games....so, we'll say the Twins play 31. If the Twins go 17-14(.548 ball)....the White Sox would have to go about 24-6 to just tie them. A lead of 7.5 is not impossible to come back from....you're correct....but when you put it into perspective like I just did....you realize that it will take more then just a month to come back from that. Either we have to play very good ball while they play very bad ball and bury them in the standings similar to what they did to us last year, or we have to play better then them for 4 months. Either is possible, and, most likely, neither will happen.
JUGGERNAUT
Upcoming sched: MIN 4 SEA, 3 @ SFG, 3 @ SDP, 3 COL, 3 ARZ, 4 @ KC, 3 @ MIL, 3 CWS, 3 MIL, 3 @ CWS Upcoming sched: CWS 1 @ TOR, 4 @ CLE, 3 @ ARI, 3 @ LAD, 3 SFG, 3 SDP, 4 BOS, 3 @ CHC, 3 @ MIN, 3 CHC, 3 MIN If this team has any heart, it can still do this. It won't be easy by any stretch of the imagination but I do believe that if the SOX play their best or if you will their paper potential mixed with what we've seen from the pitching this year they can still enter the all-star break within an ear-shot of the division lead. Please, do not leave any game in White's hands. If he must remain on the team, then delegate him to mop up duty.
cwsox
history is filled with much bigger comebacks than that, much later - check out 64 Phillies - 69 - 77 Boston and NY -- and who knows how many other years - you make a hypothetical sound anyweay you want but we don't have to catch the Twins by July 2nd - just need to make up 2 games a month, that is all - given that hypothetical, it is ridiculously easy - I know I have a lot of years on you but do a little research, whch I say kindly because you know how to do it and are a good guy and my friend - much bigger leads much later in the season have vanished lots of times. But if you look at several of the post-season teams of the last few years .. the one's that actually made noise .. that's exactly what they did. The pitching & the hitting gelled at just the right time to go on a tear. No I'm not saying they will catch the Twinkies before the break. But I guarantee you if they can take 4 out of 6 from the Twinkies before the break & take 4 out of 6 from the cub .. plus hold their own against the NLW JR will just about be banished from the city if he were to dare a WF trade. We still lost this series, even though we won this game. We have to sweep the Toons, no winning 3 of 4 or 2 or 3..we need a winning streak 8, 9 in a row
Soxfest
Sox can't beat Twins, and so much for twins having to play OAK , they held up very well.
JUGGERNAUT
They seem to have OAK's #. Just like the Yanks have theirs. They've got 3 more with SEA at the dome, & if SEA were to sweep or win that series that could deflate them pretty quickly. They were out hit 13-6 today, so it's more like OAK finds ways to lose against them rather than the Twinkies earning the wins.

I do agree wholeheartedly. However, the way this team has been playing, it is kind of hard to imagine them at this point in the season as division champions. However, when your team batting average is less then .250, you won't win anything. Only the hitless wonders could do something like that. This team has to start playing good before I can call us contenders for the division again. Winning 8-0 over any team is just one game out of many....we have not busted out of anything yet. However....I'd like to point something out to everyone. Remember how Maggs made the comment "We stink. That's it. We stink." last night? Anyone remember anyone else saying something like that? I do....check my quote of the week. Whether or not that is completely coincidental is beyond my thought process. That could be coincidental, or it could mean that Maggs is the leader of the clubhouse, and that whatever attitude he takes onto the field is the attitude the team will take onto the field. Personally, I'd rather have someone else be the leader of the team. Not because I don't like Maggs as a player, but because he just doesn't appear to play with much heart. He is a hell of a hitter....but he just makes it look so f***in easy. Then again, if we can make winning look easy....it's all fine and dandy with me. Nah, I'm just messing around. The way I look at it....Tanyon Sturtze pitched well tonight....albeit for one inning....and he used to play for us, and he was much better back then. He shut our ass down. I've predicted a 3-2 White Sox winner for tomorrow.
