Game Story

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Ticker) -- Chad Durham and Juan Piniella

each had a pair of hits and drove in a run to help the

Birmingham Barons edge the Huntsville Stars, 7-5. After a

sacrifice fly by Danny Sandoval snapped a 2-2 tie in the second

inning, Durham, who scored in the first frame, laced an RBI

double down the left field line and Piniella followed with a

run-scoring single to give Birmingham a three-run lead. Darren

Ingram launched his team-leading sixth homer in the first frame

and Ryan Hankins, who drove in a two runs, doubled home a run to

cap the four-run second for the Barons, who improved to 15-5

when scoring first. Mitch Wylie (1-0), who was recently recalled

from the Class A Carolina League, picked up his first win

despite allowing two runs and a hit in 2 2/3 innings. Royce Ring

struck out two in 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn his 13th save

of the season. Luis Martinez (4-3) surrendered seven runs and

11 hits in five innings to suffer the loss for Huntsville. Corey

Hart hit a lead-off homer in the fourth inning and Matt

Childers, who pitched three perfect innings of scoreless relief,

added a two-run single in the eighth to cut the deficit to 7-5

for the Stars, who improved to 18-0 when leading after seven

innings.

Royce Ring baby! Another 1 1/3 scoreless innings with 2 K's. Is there any doubt that Royce will be a call up if someone is dealt out of the pen? The only guy who could possilbly be considered is Matt Ginter IMO. MAYBE Munoz, if he keeps up what he has been doing as of late.

Numbers can be deceiving.... Ring gave up a 2-run double to the Huntsville pitcher, allowing both runners he inherited to score, before he settled down and got the save.

Is he looking bad? It seems like everytime BHam wins, Royce gets a save. Heck he has an era of around 0.40 with a WHIP around 1.

No, he has looked excellent. He still only throws 87-88 most of the time (he did get it up to 89-90 a couple times last night) and that bugs me for some reason.

I was just pointing out that although his numbers look like he has been untouchable he has not been perfect. He has been very, very good however.
