Gene Honda Civic
The Sox did play today. They hastily scheduled a "B" game with the crosstown Rockies to make sure guys stayed on schedule. TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Rockies scrapped plans to go to Surprise for a Saturday afternoon game after receiving discouraging reports from the Rangers about morning conditions of hard, steady rain that was expected to continue throughout the afternoon. The rainfall was the first measurable precipitation in the Phoenix area in 143 days. The Rangers advised the Rockies not to travel to Surprise, and Colorado hastily scheduled a "B" game with its Tucson training neighbors, the Chicago White Sox, who had planned on going to Peoria for a game with the Padres. The Rangers had not officially cancelled the game by the time the Rockies and White Sox began their game at 10:51 a.m. in Tucson. Texas remained hopeful it could still arrange a Saturday game with the Padres, the Rangers' neighbors northwest of Phoenix, pending weather developments. Jon Garland made his planned start for the White Sox, and Miguel Asencio got the start for the Rockies. Scheduled starter Jose Acevedo will pitch second for the Rockies. Third-base coach Joey Cora managed the White Sox, since Ozzie Guillen had gone to the Phoenix area in advance of the scheduled game. Guillen is expected to join the Sox in Tucson during the game. True...moreso in January and Feb in the form of snow in the high country. Fire season will suck this year! A day or two of rain is nice...but won't really mean all too much besides cleaning out the s***ty air.
