Guest JimH
I know we can give them our s***ty minor league players and they can give us their s***ty major league players. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Right, like Miles and Uribe for instance. It's all about scouting and certain playes becoming available at certain times. They have a roster crunch over there with lots of pitchers in camp and could use a young cheap masher. Anyways, plenty of time left in spring, let's see how it plays out.

fathom
I've actually been more impressed by some of the lefties than I have been with the righties like Hermanson, Redding, and Tracey. JimH is absolutely correct in his analysis of what we need, who might be willing to trade, and what we'll have to offer. Good to see you around Jim. fathom
BTW, I mentioned this yesterday, but I think McCarthy is better suited for starting than relieving. I'll be interested in seeing how his changeup is coming out of the pen.

He is only around because i came out to play tonight. otherwise you boys are on your own. The lefties are not the problem right now. The extra reliever was always a hole and right now a deep concern. I know they are facing mainly minor leaguers but Reynoso struck out the side. Edited March 13, 2006 by SSH2005
Jordan4life_2007
QUOTE(quickman @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 06:11 PM) You know, if you followed my posts I think our minor league system sucks, so I don't think they have overpaid especailly if it gets us to the world series. All these guys are un proven. We won the World series, thats the goal always, who cares about minor league players. We are in a positioon to win NOW not later, there will be atime when they blow this thing up and start over again, its not this year or next year, our pitching is too good. He will find someone. This is not new to me, I think our draft last year was bad, I think outside of Mcarthy we have no pitchers ready for the MLB. i like sweeney, but thats about it right now. If these guys bring us MLB talent, than I think thats great. otherwise I don't think there is much down there. But maybe your right. I do not get excited about minor league ballplayers, they are a dime a dozen and if we play them it just means we are injured or out of contention. Nor have I ruled out the Sox signing him to a deal. Sometimes when it's really quiet deals (contracts) get done. There is no denying the need for bullpen help though. Even in the unlikely event Hermanson gets and stays healthy, they need better depth. When your first call up is Sean Tracy I am worried. I'm sure he is a nice guy and all but he has trouble throwing strikes. Ozzie hates guys who can't throw strikes, it is one big reason why Javier Vazquez is now on this team. I have no doubts they will land someone but it may take time. I do believe they'll fill the gap with some guy who doesn't fit from some other org. and see how it goes for April and May. Otherwise as it stands now there are really no other holes to fill on the team, which is a better situation than in years past. We basically won the division with a quick start last year, the bullpen with teh exception of that damn cleveland game, came through big time. With this group I do not see it happening. Remmber when Koch was throwing 88. Well thats hermanson right now. Its going to get smacked. In april we have games against our own division. its goign to be a good test early. I say we need a bullpen arm sooner rather than later.

And, unlike Koch, Hermanson is not being counted on to close games. We need another arm in the pen. That much we agree on. But it won't be a tragedy if we're not able to trade for one before the season starts.
GoodAsGould
As long as Jenks can keep saving games our bullpen will be fine for the most part. Im almost 100% confident that Cotts will have a good season and be a premier setup-man and really that covers the 2 most important spots 8th-9th inning. Im a little less confident in Politte but I still think at worse he can put up a 4.25 era or something so wouldnt be a complete butcher and I think B-Mac might start slow but will eventually be one of our most reliable arms out of the pen. They will land somebody who doesn't fit elsewhere, it will be someone they think can contribute but it may not be the perfect guy. That guy may not be available, he may not have been available in November and he might not be available at the trade deadline. Here's something the White Sox brass learned the hard way up until 2005, you set your team up as best you can on April 1 vs. saying "well we'll see how we do and try to fix our holes later". The games mean a lot in April and May, this division will be tighter than people think, I highly doubt the White Sox rack up another 15 game lead. I have enough trust in Williams and Hahn that they'll land somebody sooner than later. Remember there are a whole bunch of spots open on the 40 man for a reason. Most of these other teams will need to shed a guy or two or three and the Sox are in a perfect position to pick up a valued contributer, possibly at very little cost.
