Our starters didn't go deep into games in April/May of last year?  They most certainly did.  And,  unlike Koch,  Hermanson is not being counted on to close games.  We need another arm in the pen.  That much we agree on.  But it won't be a tragedy if we're not able to trade for one before the season starts.

Well I disagree, especially with the amount of innings these guys pitched last year. For the most part starting pitchers do not go deep especially in april and the early part of may, but hey if YOU believe we are ok, then s*** I am convinced. You have completely changed my mind. I say we run with what we have. We can fill in the gaps with our minor leaguers. Jenks will be just fine, closing all year, Hermanson won't be hurt, Politte will have the same year as last year, and cotts will have no problems pitching everyday, not to mention Mcarthy pitching in the pen for the first time. No problem. You are right.

No need to be a dick. I'm just being realistic. Bullpen help is not easy to find. And I seriously doubt will be able to make a move in the next 3 weeks. I just don't think the season is lost if we're not able to make a move before that time is up. If you do, that's on you.

Agree.  They will land somebody who doesn't fit elsewhere, it will be someone they think can contribute but it may not be the perfect guy.  That guy may not be available, he may not have been available in November and he might not be available at the trade deadline.

Here's something the White Sox brass learned the hard way up until 2005, you set your team up as best you can on April 1 vs. saying "well we'll see how we do and try to fix our holes later".  The games mean a lot in April and May, this division will be tighter than people think, I highly doubt the White Sox rack up another 15 game lead.

I have enough trust in Williams and Hahn that they'll land somebody sooner than later.

Remember there are a whole bunch of spots open on the 40 man for a reason.

Most of these other teams will need to shed a guy or two or three and the Sox are in a perfect position to pick up a valued contributer, possibly at very little cost.

Well the hermanson thing has thrown everything off. if he is right we have no problems, but he is not alright. it ripples from there. jenks didn;t have time to think last year, and teams didn't have time to adjust. they will this year.

Exactly and personally I think they did try to plan ahead for this problem by keeping all kinds of room on the 40 man. Tons of room and I'm not just talking about getting some Rule 5 guy back from Texas.

Well I never said the season is a loss, but take the conversation the way you want to. I think we need a pitcher or two by april, I also think our minor league pitching prospects are horrible and will not help. I do think a good solid start is important to win this division. I think our starting pitching is the best in the game and will keep us in games, but the bullpen shut things down last year and that is a question mark NOW. Its really the only question mark. I think its better to address these things early rather than later. I think KW missed this opportunity earlier this year and is now finding out the cost.

Great point. There's more than enough available roster spots to add another reliever. I believe that we currently have 8 open spots on the 40-man roster. Even if you factor in adding one of the non-roster invitee second lefties to the 40-man and getting Fabio Castro back from the Rangers, we will still have more than enough spots open. And trading Borchard or Gload (possibly for the reliever we seek) would also free up a spot.

We've got 5 guys that can consistently get you into the 7th or 8th inning. From that point on, Bmac, Politte, Cotts and Jenks take over. So I think will be alright atleast to start the season. Can you get away with that for a whole season? Not a chance. If Kenny's able to swing a deal in the next week or so, great. I just wouldn't expect it.
