Jordan4life_2007
I knew SDSU would give Indiana a game. What a game for Calloway. That's why I love the NCAA tourney. Anybody can step up and be a hero.
greasywheels121
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 16, 2006 -> 11:34 PM) SDSU is up 10 on Indiana with a little over 13 left. I told you guys. There's still time left, but the Aztecs clearly aren't going down easily. Uh huh. -------- Earl the f***in' pearl Calloway. He's been huge since the UConn game, and Vaden proved that the ankle injury was all for not. I never thought we'd get out alive tonight, but the first round is always like that. I have us losing to Zaga in our bracket, but we've got a great shot to make some noise now that we've got past the first round.

ZoomSlowik
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 12:36 AM) Uh huh. They still gave them a hell of a game, which is a lot more than a lot of you IU fans thought. If not for a dumb play by Heath and a good bounce before the shot, it would be a different story. You guys got the win, which is nice, but let's not make it sound like the Hoosiers dominated and are on their way to Indianapolis.

whitesoxfan101
Well I figured IU would win easily since SDSU looked like poop all 3 games of their league tourney, barely surviving against bad opponents. Between Air Force and San Diego State, apparently the MWC was better than people thought. But both teams did lose at least, and IU advances to take on Gonzaga, who's deal with Satan must be due to run out soon.

You guys got the win, which is nice, but let's not make it sound like the Hoosiers dominated and are on their way to Indianapolis. I'll say this about that....... this was a great game and SD St. played very well. VERY WELL actually. I was guilty of saying IU would win by double digits, so I will eat a little crow. But I will say that I, and I am guessing you didn't, really think they would be shooting at a 65% clip 35 minutes into the game or 56% on three-pointers for the whole game. If SD State shot at a semi reasonable clip, IU would have won comfortably. But give them credit. They knocked down shot after shot after shot. IU was lucky to survive. whitesoxfan101
This game was good preparation for Gonzaga IMO for the Hoosiers. A versatile offensive team that is difficult to slow down SDSU is, they shot AMAZINGLY well, and Indiana still found a way. Indiana scored 87 tonight, and I expect similar results against a HORRIBLE defensive team in Gonzaga. The Zags better shoot damn well and hope Batista gets the better of Marco, or they have little chance at winning, even if Morrison scores 30+
Rex Hudler
Okay, here is my question for those that watched the whole game closely.... Was IU's defense that bad or was SD St. just shooting unbelievably? I had to watch in a crowded bar with no sound, so it was hard to really pay attention as closely as I normally would. I know there were some breakdowns, but for the most part, I thought I saw better offense than bad defense. Thoughts anyone? Moving on, Calloway was definitely the key tonight. He just threaded their defense time after time because they were so focused on the three-point shooters. Monroe even did it a couple of times. Aboz, greasy, did you notice the lineup Davis had in there toward the end of the first half? If I recall correctly, he had Wilmont, Suhr, Monroe, Calloway and Ben Allen. Where they hell do you expect points to come from there?? Strange lineup. I'm still trying to figure out how IU can go from scoring 51 points to 87 in two consecutive games. Hell, they play like this, the score of the Gonzaga game might be 107-100! The bottom line is, win and move on. Lucky or not, at this point you have to look ahead and not worry about tonight. If SD State shot at a semi reasonable clip, IU would have won comfortably. But give them credit. They knocked down shot after shot after shot. IU was lucky to survive. The problem with that theory is that SDSU has some really good shooters, and they hit about 39% from downtown for the year. It's not like Alabama hitting all those shots when they shoot like 34% from there. Heath shoots a little over 41% and hits about 3 a game, Sharper shoots about the same percentage and hits more than 2 a game. Plus they have a good inside game to go with that, giving them a chance at some open shots. Heath actually didn't shoot that well, although Abukar and Williams each hitting 2 is a little weird. That's counteracted a bit by Vaden hitting more than he usually does. SDSU's outside shooting is one of the major reasons they were one of my big upset picks. ZoomSlowik
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 01:30 AM) Okay, here is my question for those that watched the whole game closely.... Was IU's defense that bad or was SD St. just shooting unbelievably? Probably a little of both. San Diego State is a solid offensive team, and Indiana held Slaughter in check most of the game. Also, Heath was a little off his normal self, but not by a ton. The difference is that Abukar had a really good game, and Williams was a little better than normal. You might be able to attribute the last two to weak defense.

I'd say SD State definitely deserves some credit for just being on it tonight. My friends and I just kept dropping our jaws at some of the shots they'd get to fall in. It felt like Abukar never missed, and the Aztecs were on fire However, Indiana's defense wasn't perfect, but I don't know when the last time they saw a run and gun offense like that. They did a good job getting turnovers and steals from it; as WS101 said earlier, it'll definitely be good prep for Gonzaga.

ZoomSlowik
Mark down SDSU for a repeat trip next year too. Unless someone does something stupid like going pro, they should only lose Sharper. A starting lineup of Williams-Heath-Spain-Slaughter-Abukar could beat a lot of major conference teams with some of those guys getting a little more experience. Monroe hadn't seen action in forever, and he did alright tonight. He was taking Calloway's lead and taking advantage of the Aztec's weak inside defense. The interesting lineup I thought we played was the one we used with Killingsworth and Strick on the bench. Calloway, Monroe, Wilmont, AJ, and Vaden--5 guard set, lol.
