From this point forward, if I'm Ozzie, Logan relieves our starters. He should pitch atleast one inning every three days.

If his performance is closely judged in spring training, I'd prefer it be against the best players. Put him in situations where bases are loaded. Or three proven major league hitters are due up. Have Guillen smuggle him onto the Venezuelan roster for today's game against DR. If we're basically ignoring all logic concerning his quick advancement from Great Falls to the major, might as well put him through baseball hell.

I agree. If they're really serious about this kid, let's see what he's made of. Put him in there against the absolute best hitters the other team has to offer. I'm pretty sure it would be ugly.

Almanza didn't help his cause today.  He got rocked, reynoso did not fare well either.  It looks like its Lopez or Logan.

That was Reynoso's first earned run of the spring. He's still in the running. Dissapointing to see that Almanza got lit up. I really like his stuff.

He faced Oakland starters the other day.

"It was a step up in competition for Logan from his mop-up role during an initial appearance in Cactus League action. The 21-year-old faced eight regulars from the Oakland lineup, retiring established veterans Mark Ellis, Eric Chavez and Jason Kendall in the process."

I believe he gave up 1 hit and 1 walk in 2 IP, which was better than the rest of them.

I still can't believe they're really serious about this kid making the team. If they are (I pray they're not), they need to consistently put him in situations such as the one against Oakland.

Yah, might as well. I believe thats why he's in big league camp now.

I also remember the Sox calling up an A ball pitcher during the season who turned out to be a pretty decent pitcher upon arrival.  Scott Radinski.

As I stated on another thread, don't forget Terry Forster and Goose Gossage - they were 19 and 21 when they came up the same year - they had something like a combined total of 35 games at the 'A' level. I have yet to hear what this kid is throwing - has he put on 20 lbs. and is he throwing hard? - no idea :huh

According to Dave van Dyck, Logan's been in AAA for three years.
Logan, 21: The left-hander was a 20th-round draft pick in 2002 and has spent three years at Triple A with a 5.49 ERA. "But I dropped [my arm] down last season and it took off from there," he said. He pitched two scoreless innings Monday against Oakland and is unscored on in three innings.
No need to worry guys, he's got plenty of experience.

Might as well give him a shot. If hitters have never seen him before, and there is not much info on him, he could get away with some pitches. I would still rather have a proven vet or a player that doesn't make the cut and is out of options like Gload/Borch.

Let him pitch some more, see how that goes. I believe that in a situation like this, the decision should be almost totally performance-based and if he performs the best, then he should get the spot. I'm starting to feel like Ryan Sweeney has earned himself a spot on this team as well, although I'm sure he'll start in the minors. However, if Pods goes down, Sweeney would be my first callup.

Calling Logan an "A" ball player is like calling Pedro Lopez a major leaguer.

He's never played full season ball. Let's start bringing up the best hitter in the game who full season of dominating A ball before he made the big club. the following year.

Dontrelle don't fit either. He had nothing but success in the minors, and had 200 more innings above rookie ball than does Logan.

I realize you said someone with the history of Logan but there have been players who have pretty much skipped the majors and shown success during there first seasons. I know Jim Abbot spent minimal time in the minor leagues and he was able to pitch sucessfully at the major leauge level (even early in his career).

Ventura had limited ML time, but he opened his career with a horrific slide, but got rolling.

That said I realize your talking about someone whose put up pedestrian numbers in A ball who wasn't a high draft pick.

Dude is a side-armer?  I didn't even know that.

Think Kelly Wunsch with better stuff. Same pitches, delivery, size (6-5) and purpose as a situational lefty. I think Ozzie is going to give the kid every chance to make the team over guys like Almanza and Lopez. If he makes the team, that would be amazing a guy who has never pitched above A ball makes the major league team.

I didn't think he dropped down that much? I thought his motion was just a little side-arm. That said I have not seen the man pitch. I'm sure I'll get to see him one of the next few days. Leave for AZ tomorrow after classes. :headbang
